Precautionary measures to mitigate the island\u2019s high fire risks had been insufficiently implemented, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/hawaii-maui-fire-risks-plans-government-e883f3a3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to\u2064 The Wall Street Journal. Fire\u200d crews\u2064 had initially responded to the fire and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/08\/18\/what-went-wrong-in-maui-outrage-over-apparent-failings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declared<\/a> it \u201c100% contained\u201d before it later reignited. As people lost \u200bpower and cell service, local \u200dofficials warned some via glitchy messages on their cell phones; some never got \u200cthe warnings at all. According to evacuees, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/15\/us\/hawaii-maui-lahaina-fire.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">road closures<\/a> made it harder for fleeing residents to\u2062 escape, \u200ctrapping some \u2063in their\u2064 cars as the \u2064fire roared through.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Government Incompetence and Tragedy in Maui<\/h2>\n<h3>Insufficient Precautionary Measures\u200b and Communication Failures<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fire crews initially declared \u200cthe\u200c fire &#8220;100% contained&#8221; before it reignited<\/li>\n<li>The \u200bsiren alert system remained silent during the \u200dfire<\/li>\n<li>Glitchy\u200c messages and lack of warnings left some residents unaware of the danger<\/li>\n<li>Road closures hindered evacuation efforts, trapping people in \u2062their cars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Perhaps worst of all, the Department of Land and Natural Resources \u201cdelayed the release of water\u2062 that landowners wanted\u2063 to help protect their property from fires\u201d until it was \u201ctoo late,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.civilbeat.org\/2023\/08\/a-state-official-refused-to-release-water-for-west-maui-fires-until-it-was-too-late\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to \u200dthe Honolulu Civil Beat. Four people \u201cwith knowledge \u200cof the situation\u201d told the local outlet that M. Kaleo Manuel, \u2062the agency\u2019s deputy director for water resource management,\u2063 \u201cbalked\u201d at \u2063a Maui property management\u2064 company\u2019s\u2064 desperate\u200d request for water.\u200c The delay reported lasted more than five hours.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Delayed Release of Water<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Department \u200cof Land and Natural Resources refused \u2063to release water to protect properties<\/li>\n<li>Deputy director M. Kaleo Manuel ignored a \u2063desperate request for water<\/li>\n<li>The delay lasted more than five\u2064 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the New York \u200dPost, Manuel had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/08\/19\/hawaii-official-worried-about-equity-over-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discussed<\/a> the need for water distribution to be based on \u201ctrue conversations about equity.\u201d Formerly\u200d affiliated with the Obama Foundation, Manuel insisted last year that Hawaiians must \u201ccoexist\u201d with resources like water.<\/p>\n<p>  \u2063Is that the\u2062 kind of guy you want in charge of decisions that might save or cost your life?<\/p>\n<p>This kind\u200d of \u200dapparent incompetence infects nearly every sphere woke activists can get their PowerPoint-clicking fingers on. Whether\u2064 by hiring\u200d people who score high on <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/dei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DEI<\/a> rubrics instead \u200dof job qualifications, or just by flat-out hiring people who want to tear down\u2062 the systems they\u2019re supposed to\u2062 be running, the \u200dfolks in charge are playing with, well, fire.<\/p>\n<p>For the sake of inclusivity, the Federal Aviation Administration, which is currently advertising air traffic \u200ccontroller positions, \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/jobs\/diversity_inclusion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">notes<\/a> on its website that \u2062it \u200buses \u201cDirect Hiring Authorities\u201d to \u201cexpedite\u201d hiring of \u201cPeople with Severe Disabilities\u201d such as \u201ccomplete paralysis, severe intellectual disability and psychiatric disability.\u201d Doesn\u2019t that make you feel confident in the people you entrust with your life every time you fly?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Incompetence in Various Sectors<\/h2>\n<h3>Questionable Hiring Practices and Consequences<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hiring based on DEI rubrics instead of qualifications<\/li>\n<li>Hiring individuals who want \u2062to dismantle the systems they&#8217;re \u200csupposed to run<\/li>\n<li>Federal Aviation Administration expediting \u200dhiring of people with severe disabilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As Peachy \u2064Keenan noted in these pages last month, airlines \u2064like United and American are openly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/19\/get-race-quotas-out-of-the-cockpit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hiring<\/a> people based\u200d on characteristics\u2064 like race\u2062 and sex, which, last I checked, have nothing to do with knowing how to fly a plane. In a twist of fate that definitely no \u200bone could have foreseen, \u201cthe last\u200d 12 months have delivered the highest number\u2062 of near-collisions and narrowly\u200d averted \u2064disasters in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/get-race-quotas-out-of-the-cockpit-before-we-literally-crash-and-burn\/\" title=\"Remove Race Quotas from the Cockpit to Prevent Catastrophe.\">modern aviation history<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking \u200bof entrusting your life to someone, \u2063have you\u200c been to the doctor\u2019s office lately? You probably didn\u2019t care\u200c what race your doctor is \u2014 bigot!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Woke Policies\u200c in Medicine<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Doctors asking for pronouns and prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusiveness<\/li>\n<li>Medical schools using adversity scores for \u2064admissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Not only will conferring\u2062 MDs based on superficial qualities that have nothing to \u200bdo with competence mean your doctor may\u2063 not be the most qualified, but\u200c woke policies\u2064 in medicine are <em>directly <\/em>costing you \u2064care. Or\u200b the\u200b hiring of Pete Buttigieg, who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/17\/why-is-pete-buttigieg-allowed-to-keep-failing-upward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">failed upward<\/a> from being an ineffective mayor to\u200b a transportation\u200c secretary who took time off during\u2064 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reports-biden-admin-admits-goods-shortages-for-christmas\/\" title=\"Reports: Biden admin. admits goods shortages for Christmas\">supply chain crisis<\/a> and was \u200cabsent during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/02\/24\/ohio-train-disaster-exposes-hollowness-incompetence-of-identity-obsessed-ruling-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chemical disaster<\/a> \u200c in East Palestine, \u200cOhio.<\/p>\n<p>It was also apparently the mindset of the CEO of Oceangate, who had <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/21\/why-stockton-rush-didnt-hire-50-year-old-white-guys-for-titanic-sub-tours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> how he didn\u2019t want to hire a \u201cbunch of 50-year-old white guys\u201d before he tragically \u200cdied in his own \u2064submersible earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Need more examples? It\u2019s only a \u2064matter\u200d of time before the wrong man (or woman) for the job has your life in their\u200b hands.
