Although it\u2019s increasingly reported worldwide, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-to-show-lockdowns-are-killing-more-people-than-the-virus\/\" title=\"How To Show Lockdowns Are Killing More People Than The Virus\">health experts<\/a> say it poses a\u2062 low risk\u2062 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/people-who-trash-their-family-in-public-cant-be-trusted\/\" title=\"Don't trust those who publicly criticize their own family.\">public \u2063health<\/a>, as there is no evidence it causes different or more severe\u200d symptoms than \u200dprevious omicron offspring.<\/p>\n<h2>The Essentials<\/h2>\n<p>A subvariant of the omicron lineage, Eris, otherwise known as EG.5, was detected as early as February 2023.<\/p>\n<p>As of Aug. 23, Eris has been detected in\u200b more than 50 countries and is responsible for\u200c an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#variant-proportions\">20.6 percent<\/a> of all cases in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, FL.1.5.1 is now the second\u2064 most prevalent \u2064strain, accounting for over\u200b 13 \u2062percent of cases.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 9, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated Eris as a variant of interest (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/docs\/default-source\/coronaviruse\/09082023eg.5_ire_final.pdf?sfvrsn=2aa2daee_1\">pdf<\/a>), meaning\u200d it possesses genetic characteristics that could increase its transmissibility, \u2064virulence, and\u200c ability to \u200bevade vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>The WHO had previously labeled \u2064Eris as a variant\u200d &#8220;under\u200b monitoring&#8221; after a surge in\u200b COVID-19 infections in early July.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b current variant of interest list also includes two other omicron cousins\u2014XBB.1.5 and XBB.1.16.<\/p>\n<p>If Eris is \u200dupgraded to a \u200cvariant of \u2063concern, governments would need to\u2063 increase preventative measures, such as mask mandates in \u2064hospitals, testing, or physical distancing.<\/p>\n<p>There have already been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/concerns-grow-that-eris-covid-variant-could-trigger-new-restrictions-5477545\">growing concerns<\/a> that Eris \u2062could\u200d trigger governments to revive \u2064some COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n<h2>How \u2063Dangerous Is It Compared to Other \u2062Variants?<\/h2>\n<p>Eris is a descendent of omicron \u200dvariant XBB.1.9.2.<\/p>\n<p>Eris carries an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-you-need-to-know-about-new-eris-covid-variant\/\" title=\"Key Facts About New 'Eris' COVID Variant\">additional amino acid mutation<\/a>, known \u200bas F456L, in the spike protein. This mutation has been shown to escape immunity\u2062 gained from previous variants and may help the new variant\u200c transmit quickly.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC said there is no evidence Eris causes more severe disease than other omicron \u2063descendants, and it seems to cause \u200csimilar symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Similar \u2063to those of earlier COVID-19 virus \u200dstrains and that of the common cold, symptoms may include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fatigue.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Muscle \u200dpain.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Chest pain.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Headache.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sore\u200c throat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Runny nose.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Congestion.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Cough.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fever and chills.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nausea or \u2062vomiting.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Diarrhea.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Loss\u2064 of taste or\u200d smell.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>New Generation &#8216;Variant Under Monitoring&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>Health authorities have also been tracking a highly \u2062mutated strain called \u200bBA.2.86, or &#8220;Pirola&#8221; by some, which has\u200c caught scientists by surprise after it was picked up by COVID-19 testing on three continents.<\/p>\n<p>This variant has scientists \u200con\u2063 alert because its emergence is reminiscent of the early days of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/erickson-electile-dysfunction\/\" title=\"ERICKSON: Electile Dysfunction\">omicron variant<\/a> in late 2021 when researchers in southern Africa\u2063 noticed a lineage that quickly spread \u200cglobally.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a little bit of \u200dd\u00e9j\u00e0 vu all over again,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-023-02656-9\">said Adam Lauring<\/a>, a\u200d virologist and\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/one-of-faucis-top-doctors-opposes-vaccine-mandates-will-debate-ethics-at-the-nih\/\" title=\"One of Fauci's Top Doctors Opposes Vaccine Mandates, Will Debate Ethics at the NIH\">infectious-disease physician<\/a> at the University \u200dof Michigan in Ann Arbor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The dominant COVID-19 variant in the US is the &#8220;Eris&#8221; strain, as per the CDC.
