However, the \u2063Ohio Democrat \u200chas now \u2064admitted that he himself\u200d failed to \u200cdisclose hundreds\u200c of thousands of dollars in assets.<\/p>\n<p>Brown recently confessed in\u2063 a <a href=\"https:\/\/efdsearch.senate.gov\/search\/view\/paper\/16caefd7-3011-4fca-8bc7-0ed7eba4a0a7\/\">letter<\/a> to the Senate Office of Public Records that he neglected\u2064 to include his\u2062 wife&#8217;s\u2064 retirement accounts, which are valued at up to $750,000, \u200din his financial disclosures. Shockingly, Brown&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sherrod-brown-demands-financial-transparency-for-years-he-failed-to-disclose-hundreds-of-thousands-of-dollars-in-assets\/\" title=\"Sherrod Brown calls for financial transparency, yet concealed substantial assets for years.\">incomplete financial disclosures date back<\/a> to 2007, when he first \u200cjoined the \u200bSenate. The Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ethics.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/financialdisclosure\">requires<\/a> both members \u200dand candidates to disclose their spouse&#8217;s assets,\u200b including retirement accounts.<\/p>\n<p>This failure to disclose assets directly contradicts the campaign rhetoric Brown employed during his Senate reelection bid.\u200c In 2012, Brown fiercely criticized his Republican challenger, Josh Mandel, for filing his\u2063 financial disclosure six months late. Brown argued in a blog post that this blunder demonstrated Mandel&#8217;s untrustworthiness. Even Brown&#8217;s\u2063 former communications director, Justin Barasky, went so far as to claim that Mandel &#8220;broke the law and illegally refused \u200dto disclose his \u2062personal finances,&#8221; which he deemed &#8220;completely unacceptable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The lack of transparency\u200d Ohioans\u200d are seeing from our absentee treasurer \u2064is completely unacceptable,&#8221; Barasky stated in 2011.\u2064 &#8220;Josh Mandel is in violation of the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is not \u2063the first time Brown has faced scrutiny over financial matters. On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/sen-sherrod-brown-received-extra-property-tax-credit-rcna82048\">at \u200dleast seven occasions<\/a>, \u200bBrown failed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-dems-owed-d-c-thousands-in-unpaid-property-taxes-records-show\/\" title=\"House Dems Owed D.C. Thousands in Unpaid Property Taxes, Records Show\">pay property taxes<\/a> on time. Additionally, for\u200c years, \u200cthe Democrat \u2064claimed primary residence tax credits on two Ohio\u200c properties, saving him over $1,000. Ironically, Brown, \u200bwho chairs \u2062the Senate\u2062 Banking Committee, has been \u2063vocal about his\u200d efforts to &#8220;crackdown on\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-elizabeth-warren-introduces-bill-to-triple-irs-budget\/\" title=\"Sen. Elizabeth Warren introduces bill to triple IRS budget\">wealthy tax cheats<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The undisclosed assets\u200d in Brown&#8217;s financial disclosures include \u200da mutual fund valued between $250,001 and $500,000, as well as \u200ca pension plan valued between $100,001 and $250,000. These \u2063assets were accumulated by Brown&#8217;s wife, journalist Connie Schultz, during her time as a <em>Plain Dealer<\/em> reporter and Kent State University \u200cprofessor.<\/p>\n<p>Brown&#8217;s campaign manager, Rachel \u2064Petri,\u200d released a statement to the \u2062 <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> acknowledging the oversight, stating \u2062that \u2064&#8221;Connie&#8217;s retirement was not \u200dincluded&#8221; \u2063in Brown&#8217;s disclosures\u200b and\u200d that &#8220;the previous reports\u2063 have now been updated.&#8221; However, Petri did not provide an explanation for the oversight.<\/p>\n<p>Brown&#8217;s financial disclosure fiasco comes \u2062at\u200d a critical \u200dtime as he\u200b faces a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrats-eyeing-majority-look-to-18-gop-held-districts-biden-won\/\" title=\"House Democrats target 18 GOP-held districts won by Biden.\">tough \u2063reelection battle<\/a>\u2064 in\u2064 Ohio. The state, which\u200b supported former President Donald\u2062 Trump by 8 percentage points in \u2063both 2016\u200b and 2020, poses a significant challenge \u2064for the \u2062Democrat.
