Justin Pearson Complains \u200bAbout Republicans&#8217;\u200c Opposition to Gun Control<\/h2>\n<p>Tennessee Democrat Rep.\u2063 Justin Pearson, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/04\/tennessee-republicans-boot-democrats-who-incited-insurrection-from-committees-threaten-expulsion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expelled<\/a> from his position for inciting an \u201cinsurrection\u201d\u200d in\u200c the state Capitol, is\u2062 now complaining to corporate media that Republicans are enlisting mob rule to\u200d once again stifle a leftist-led \u2062gun \u200dgrab in \u200dthe Volunteer State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wonder \u200cwhat you make \u2062of the fact that the people of your state\u200c who you were standing up for would \u200dlike \u2063to see some gun\u200b safety \u200blegislation,\u2063 and \u2063the Republicans are\u2064 ignoring the will\u200c of the \u2062majority,\u201d MSNBC\u2019s Nicole Wallace asked Pearson in an interview on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Our democracy\u200d is in \u200dperil. The reality is\u2062 we have people in \u200dthe state\u200b of Tennessee, a Republican \u200dParty, who in much more\u200b interested in \u200bturning\u2063 our democracy\u200b into their mobocracy for\u2062 mob rules&#8221; \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Justinjpearson?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Justinjpearson<\/a> w\/\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NicolleDWallace?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NicolleDWallace<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jQe4Y8egew\">pic.twitter.com\/jQe4Y8egew<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Pearson\u2019s comments are ironic\u200c considering he was one of the \u201cTennessee Three\u201d representatives who \u2063encouraged a mob in the chamber gallery in March to bully legislators into passing restrictive gun \u2062control laws.<\/p>\n<p>Their attempts \u200cto rouse the \u200browdy crowd with jeers, taunts, and chants of \u2062\u201cno action, no\u200d peace\u201d were met with swift accountability from the General Assembly, \u200bwhich voted\u2064 to boot Pearson and Rep. Justin Jones from the House\u200b days later.<\/p>\n<p>At \u2064the \u2063time,\u200d Democrats all over the nation, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1644100520636739586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including President \u2064Joe Biden<\/a>, and the corporate media \u2063condemned \u2062the \u2062committee removals and \u200cejections as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/07\/democrats-who-called-for-innocent-republicans-to-be-fired-post-j6-complain-their-party-faces-consequences-for-inciting-tennessee-insurrection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cracist,\u201d an erosion of \u201cdemocratic norms,\u201d<\/a> and the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AEjxAKrZr5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latest GOP move to stifle\u200d dissent<\/a>,\u201d\u2064 even though Pearson and Jones were reinstated\u200d to their positions less than a week later.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Pearson says Republicans\u2019 \u200bfight to keep Gov. Bill Lee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-cornyn-says-senate-may-not-reach-a-deal-on-two-parts-of-gun-control-bill\/\" title=\"Sen. Cornyn Says Senate May Not Reach a Deal on Two Parts of Gun Control Bill\">red flag law proposal<\/a> and other unconstitutional gun\u200d policies off \u2064of the books in their state <em>also<\/em> constitutes\u200b undemocratic behavior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing in state legislature after \u2062state legislature the \u200derosion of our \u200bdemocracy\u2063 and\u2063 so I\u2019m deeply concerned about what\u2062 is\u2063 happening here \u2063in Tennessee, under the\u2062 leadership of this extremist Republican Party of Cameron Sexton and William Lambert,\u201d Pearson told Wallace.<\/p>\n<p>Pearson specifically took issue with \u200dRepublicans\u2019 attempts \u200cto secure\u2063 the state Capitol against another bout of unrest during their August special session.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are\u2063 seeing \u2062that\u2062 quite literally in the rules that \u2062are \u2064being passed that\u2062 have now prohibited our own constituents \u2064from coming into\u200d session \u200cand holding \u2063a sign that says \u2018Protect kids not\u2062 guns\u2019 or that says \u2018Am I next?\u2019 \u2014 that \u2063has now been banned\u2064 during this special session,\u201d Pearson said. \u201cIn fact, pieces of paper have more regulation than guns in our state.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corporate \u200bMedia <em>Really<\/em> Want Gun Control in Tennessee Too<\/h2>\n<p>Pearson and Jones aren\u2019t the only ones\u2063 using\u200c empty \u2063definitions of \u201cdemocracy\u201d to browbeat \u200band guilt-trip their legislative colleagues \u200binto \u2063doing their bidding when it comes to firearms.<\/p>\n<p>Desperate pleas for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tennessee-democrat-expelled-for-rousing-a-literal-mob-accuses-republicans-of-mobocracy\/\" title=\"Tennessee Democrat expelled for inciting mob accuses Republicans of 'mobocracy'.\">gun control littered \u2062front pages<\/a> on \u2064Monday morning \u2064as the state \u2062chambers convened for the special session. Now she\u2019s pleading with\u2062 GOP lawmakers \u2063for change,\u201d the\u2064 headline <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/08\/19\/nashville-school-shooting-tennessee-gun-laws-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">states<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article claims that the only thing standing in the way of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-congress-enact-major-restrictions-on-constitutionally-protected-second-amendment-rights\/\" title=\"Biden To Congress: Enact Major Restrictions On Constitutionally Protected Second Amendment Rights\">gun control activists<\/a> like Alexander is \u201ca\u2062 powerful Republican-supermajority legislature that has\u2063 resisted \u200ddemands that lawmakers\u200b say infringe on rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrieving\u200b Governor\u2019s Moderate Gun Proposal Is Spurned by G.O.P.\u2064 Allies,\u201d The New York Times \u200dalso <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/21\/us\/politics\/tennessee-gun-law-nashville-shooting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lamented<\/a> once it became clear Republicans would focus more on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/governor\/news\/2023\/8\/8\/gov--lee-issues-official-call--presents-legislative-priorities-ahead-of--public-safety-special-session.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mental\u2064 health and safe gun\u200c storage<\/a> than restricting Americans\u2019 constitutional rights.<\/p>\n<p>Local outlets such as The Tennessean\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.li\/zfBeO#selection-297.0-297.77\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published op-eds<\/a> calling for Tennessee lawmakers \u200dto\u2062 \u201clisten\u2062 to children about their gun violence \u200dfears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Missing \u2062from\u200c the front \u2064pages \u200bof these publications was any mention of polls suggesting that a <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/news\/poll-tennesseans-want-dangerous-people-removed-from-community-instead-of-more-gun-laws\/pdabrosca\/2023\/06\/08\/?feed_id=20746&#038;_unique_id=6481dd508d6f9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">majority of Tennesseans<\/a> \u200d want \u200dcurrent gun \u200blaws enforced \u200binstead of \u2062adding new laws\u200b to the books.<\/p>\n<p>The specific gun law pushed \u2063by activists, Lee, Democrats like Pearson, and \u2064now \u2063the propaganda press is far from \u201cmoderate.\u201d As my \u2062colleague Federalist Senior Editor David Harsanyi noted\u200c during the legislation\u2019s\u2064 debut \u2063in April, a law deeming someone who has a \u201cpsychiatric disorder\u201d\u200b or \u201cserious behavioral condition\u201d eligible to lose his Second Amendment\u2064 rights for\u2063 180 days \u2063or more is an \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/20\/bill-lees-red-flag-proposal-is-an-unconstitutional-travesty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cunconstitutional travesty.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/20\/tennessee-gov-bill-lee-wont-say-whether-he-classifies-transgenderism-as-psychological-disorder-in-gun-grab-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">failure to clarify<\/a> whether transgenderism, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-the-fight-against-critical-race-theory-has-only-just-begun\/\" title=\"GOP: The Fight Against Critical Race Theory Has Only Just Begun\">radical gender ideology<\/a> that\u200c possessed the Covenant \u200bSchool shooter who murdered six,\u200c counts\u200d as a \u2063\u201cpsychological\u2064 disorder\u201d \u200conly furthered the GOP\u2019s case against passing such a\u200b sweeping \u200dlaw.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tennessee Democrat Rep.
