He asked the \u200dDA to postpone the\u200c deadline \u200buntil\u200c after his hearing, but she \u201crejected the proposal\u2063 out of\u2064 hand and made clear that she would arrest Mr. Meadows,\u201d \u2064his lawyers \u2063said in court papers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not granting\u2064 any extensions. I gave 2 weeks \u2064for people to surrender themselves to the \u200bcourt. Your client is no\u200c different than any other criminal defendant in this jurisdiction,&#8221; Willis \u200cresponded to the lawyers, according to the court filing,\u200c adding, &#8220;The two weeks was a tremendous\u200b courtesy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawyers retorted with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/meadows-moves-to-thwart-arrest-in-georgia-trump-case\/\" title=\"Meadows takes action to prevent Georgia Trump case arrest.\">letter\u200b \u201cmaking clear<\/a> that Mr. Meadows is differently\u200b situated from\u2063 other \u2064Fulton County defendants\u2064 because he is a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/treasury-department-hit-with-large-scale-breach-national-security-council-now-involved\/\" title=\"Treasury Department Hit with Large-Scale Breach, National Security Council Now Involved\">federal official<\/a> who\u200c has a\u2062 pending\u2063 Notice of Removal,\u201d the filing said.<\/p>\n<p>Federal \u2062officials have a right to be tried in federal court and\u2064 enjoy\u200c an immunity against prosecution for actions they took\u200d \u201cunder color\u201d of office. While Mr. Meadows no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-impeachment-trial-begins-this-week\/\" title=\"Trump Impeachment Trial Begins This Week\">longer holds office<\/a>, he did\u200b during the time covered by the DA\u2019s allegations.<\/p>\n<p>On\u2063 Aug. 22, the lawyers asked District Judge Steve Jones, who oversees the removal request, to \u200ceither grant it \u2063before Aug. 25, or \u2062to \u200dforbid Ms. Willis from arresting Mr. Meadows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Court should promptly grant relief to prevent Mr. \u200bMeadows from irreparably losing his right\u200c under federal law to be free from \u2064state arrest and to protect this Court\u2019s ability consider Mr. Meadows\u2019s Notice of Removal \u2026 in an orderly fashion,\u201d the filing said (<a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.gand.319225\/gov.uscourts.gand.319225.17.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Removal should be\u200b decided quickly, particularly in this case, the \u200blawyers suggested, \u200bbecause \u201cunfortunately,\u200b the State [of Georgia] is set on subjecting Mr. Meadows to criminal process in Georgia as quickly as it can \u2062and without regard to his pending efforts to remove the case to federal court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Removals have \u200cbeen\u2063 granted even \u200cwithout\u200b a hearing in the past, they\u200b noted, but added that the court could grant the removal and then\u200d reconsider the decision after\u200d the hearing if needed.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, preventing Mr. Meadows\u2019s arrest \u201cwill preserve Mr. Meadows\u2019s rights without substantially burdening the State of Georgia,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>If the removal is granted, the e<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>federal judge in Georgia to block his arrest.
