These previous \u200bpolicies allowed teachers to use preferred gender pronouns and \u200bgranted\u2063 students access to facilities based \u200con their gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>Prince William County Public\u200d Schools (PWCS) \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pwcs.edu\/news\/2023\/08\/nondiscrimination_policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a statement<\/a> affirming their commitment to addressing\u200c transgender and &#8220;gender expansive&#8221;\u2064 students \u2062by their chosen names\u200b and pronouns. They also stated that these students would have access to facilities consistent with their\u200d gender identity. The Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the largest school \u2062district in Virginia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-golden-globes-new-best-actress-in-a-tv-drama-is-actually-a-biological-man\/\" title=\"The Golden Globes\u2019 New \u2018Best Actress\u2019 In A TV Drama Is Actually A Biological Man\">echoed similar sentiments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, Governor Youngkin is \u2064standing firm. In \u2063an interview \u200bon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/gov-youngkin-fires-back-school-district-defying-policy-gender-identity-parents-are-in-charge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox\u2064 News<\/a>, \u200che \u2064emphasized that\u200b Virginia law grants him the authority to issue model \u2063policies, \u200band school \u200bdistricts are obligated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-school-board-unanimously-votes-against-states-new-transgender-policies-after-community-outrage\/\" title=\"Virginia School Board Unanimously Votes Against State\u2019s New Transgender Policies After Community Outrage\">adopt policies consistent<\/a> with these models.<\/p>\n<p>According to Governor Youngkin,\u2064 the new rules prioritize parental authority and common sense.\u2063 He stated, &#8220;Parents are in charge of their children&#8217;s lives. The kids don&#8217;t belong to the\u200b state. They belong to parents and to\u200c families, and they\u2062 have \u200bthe ultimate say in decisions that the child is going to make with\u200b a parent, not with \u2064a bureaucrat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d governor also highlighted the concerns of many\u2062 parents\u200b who feel that the previous policies failed to \u200bensure the safety and privacy of their children. The\u200d model policy also includes an &#8220;opt-out&#8221; option for parents to\u200b request \u2064access\u2063 to sex-separated facilities\u2062 if\u200c state or \u2063federal\u2062 law mandates \u2063the inclusion of transgender students in otherwise sex-segregated\u200c facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The policies\u200c also \u200cemphasize that \u2062students who \u200dare \u200dminors \u200dmust be \u2064referred to by the names\u200d and \u200bpronouns in their\u200c official\u200c records, unless a parent approves an alternative. Regarding parental notification, the\u2064 guidelines state that school divisions should \u2064not \u2064encourage teachers\u200c to conceal information \u200cabout a\u2062 student&#8217;s gender \u200didentity from their parents. The\u200b finalized version of the policy also \u200creminds school divisions to comply\u2064 with a state law\u2062 regarding\u2062 communication about \u2063a perceived imminent risk of \u200csuicide by a student.<\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines also ensure that parents have the opportunity\u200b to object before \u2064counseling services related to gender are offered to their children.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, \u200cthe model \u200dpolicy allowed \u200dstudents to use names\u200d and gender \u2063pronouns that align with their gender identity\u200c without requiring substantiating \u2062evidence.
