The CHNV parole was modeled after a similar program allowing up to 30,000 Ukrainian nationals to enter the U.S. monthly.<\/p>\n<p>The subpoena, issued in a communication to Mr. Mayorkas (<a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/2023-08-21-Green-to-Mayorkas-DHS-re-Subpoena-CHNV-Parole-Program-Signed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>), comes 102 days after the original deadline Republicans set for DHS to hand \u200cover the\u200b materials.<\/p>\n<p>However, the panel described \u2063a &#8220;demonstrated approach to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-subpoena-mayorkas-over-illegal-immigrant-parole-policy\/\" title=\"House Republicans have issued a subpoena to Mayorkas regarding the parole policy for illegal immigrants.\">indefinitely protract production<\/a>&#8221; of the materials, which Republicans said necessitated the escalation to a subpoena.<\/p>\n<h2>Democrats Respond<\/h2>\n<p>The subpoena\u200d was decried as &#8220;baseless&#8221; by panel Ranking Member Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) in a <a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-homeland.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/thompson-statement-on-extreme-maga-republicans-baseless-subpoena-to-dhs-in-absurd-impeachment-quest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is absurd that extreme MAGA Republicans running our Committee have subpoenaed the Department while the Department has been working with them to get them\u200d what they need and has been producing and transmitting requested data,&#8221; Mr. Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not only is the Republican request outside the Committee\u2019s legislative jurisdiction, the\u200c majority broke the Committee\u2019s rules\u2014which they, themselves, wrote\u2014by not informing [panel Democrats] accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their hypocrisy is showing\u2014I have not \u200cforgotten when Democrats were forced to subpoena the Trump Administration after they completely ignored even our most basic requests, and Committee Republicans were silent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Thompson described\u2063 the move as \u200bpart of the broader Republican effort to\u200d impeach Mr. Mayorkas, a route that even moderate Republicans have openly discussed in recent months as Republican frustrations over Mr. Mayorkas&#8217;s handling of the border intensify.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This subpoena is just\u200b another misstep in their baseless and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-halted-probe-linking-lab-leak-to-covid-19-report\/\" title=\"Biden Administration Halted Probe Linking Lab Leak to COVID-19: Report\">politicized effort<\/a> to impeach Secretary Mayorkas,&#8221; Mr. Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>A DHS spokesperson told The Epoch Times that the \u200bescalation was unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDHS has provided substantial materials in response to the Homeland Security Committee\u2019s request,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Department also communicated to the Committee that we will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/my-question-was-about-xi-peter-doocy-protests-while-jen-psaki-circles-back-to-question-about-crime\/\" title=\"\u2018My Question Was About Xi\u2019: Peter Doocy Protests While Jen Psaki Circles Back To Question About Crime\">provide additional data<\/a> as it becomes available.
