A review of the \u200devidence around these mandates has not shown a positive health\u200d impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, in some parts \u2064of the country, mask \u200bmandates have already arrived. \u200dA slight uptick in\u2063 the virus led two hospitals in Syracuse, New York, University and Community General, to reimpose mandatory face-masking and COVID testing on Aug. 17, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minnesota-theater-cancels-cinderella-production-citing-too-many-white-cast-members\/\" title=\"Minnesota Theater Cancels \u2018Cinderella\u2019 Production Citing Too Many White Cast Members\">local news outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Effective immediately, mandatory masking is required by all staff, visitors,\u200b and patients in clinical\u2063 areas,\u201d instructed a memo sent to staff and obtained by Syracuse.com. &#8220;Clinical \u2063areas are \u200cdefined as any location patients gather, wait, transport thorough,\u200c or receive care.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In Los Angeles, \u200dmajor Hollywood studio Lionsgate demanded employees cover their faces at its Santa Monica office buildings. The policy was announced in \u200can\u200d internal memo obtained by Deadline, demanding that \u201cEmployees \u200cmust wear a medical grade face \u2064covering\u2064 (surgical mask, KN95 \u2064or N95) when indoors except when alone in an office with the door closed, actively eating, actively drinking\u200d at their desk or workstation, or if they\u2063 are the only individual present in a large open\u2063 workspace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Atlanta, Georgia Morris Brown College announced a mask mandate for everyone entering its campus.\u2063 In\u200b an Aug. 20 Instagram post the college stated that \u201call students \u2064and employees\u2063 are required \u2062to wear face masks (staff may remove face \u2064masks when in their offices alone.)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Health officials are also beginning to urge the\u200c return of face coverings among the general \u200dpublic. The Los Angeles\u200b County Public Health agency has recommended that higher-risk residents need to wear masks, citing a rise in COVID cases.<\/p>\n<p>Further, a new COVID booster shot catered\u200c to the\u200b most recent variant is expected to be rolled out\u200b next \u200bmonth, Centers of Disease Control\u2062 and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Mandy Cohen told NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will likely see this as \u2062an annual COVID shot, just like the \u200cflu shot,\u201d said Dr. Cohen.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the growing concerns, spread of the virus has remained at\u200b historically low levels. While the average COVID hospitalization rate nationwide rose about 17 percent between June and July, \u2063they remain at a small fraction of what they were \u200da year ago when they measured at more than six times the current admission rates, according to CDC.<\/p>\n<h2>Poor Evidence<\/h2>\n<p>The\u200d issue of mask mandates has become a hot-button issue for many Americans. During 2020 and 2021, when\u200d the world was in the grips of the pandemic, masks were widely forced on the population under the belief \u2063that face coverings could prevent the\u2062 spread. The CDC enacted a mask mandate on public transportation that was \u2064enacted in February 2021 and\u200d extended to May\u200b 3 while \u2063several private businesses refused entry to citizens who refused \u200dto cover their face.<\/p>\n<p>Critics of mandates have \u200ccited numerous studies and data suggesting that the effectiveness of masks\u2062 in \u200bpreventing the \u200cspread of COVID-19 is questionable.
