How\u200d dare they change \u2064my daughter&#8217;s name. How dare they not\u2063 involve\u200d me,&#8221; Ms. Friday expressed her \u2062frustration.<\/p>\n<p>Ms.\u200c Friday sought help from \u200da therapist\u200c out of state to understand her child&#8217;s identity\u2064 struggles. After a little over a year, her daughter\u200b stopped identifying as transgender. &#8220;It\u200c was so painful\u200d to watch my daughter die by a thousand \u200bcuts \u2063with everyone\u200b cheering her on,&#8221; Ms. Friday shared.<\/p>\n<p>This story is not unique, according to Ms. \u200dFriday. \u200bShe believes it is a result of the LGBT community&#8217;s push to introduce gender ideology\u2064 into schools\u200d over \u200cthe past five years. Children\u2064 are\u2062 now\u200d being asked about their pronouns and \u200cpreferred names almost daily, which \u200bMs. Friday\u2062 believes \u200ccontributes to confusion.<\/p>\n<p>When a child\u200d expresses a\u200b desire to\u200d go by a different name or gender, schools \u200dinstruct teachers to keep it a secret from parents, citing California Education Department guidance. However, Ms. \u2063Friday\u200c argues that this guidance is not law. &#8220;That&#8217;s actually not true, that&#8217;s not \u200bwhat the law says,\u200b but that&#8217;s what \u2064teachers are doing because that&#8217;s\u2063 what they&#8217;re told the law \u200csays,&#8221; she stated.<\/p>\n<p>It is clear that the issue of hiding \u200dstudents&#8217; transgender status from \u200dparents\u2064 in California \u200cschools \u200dis \u2064a complex and \u2064controversial one.
