Most Residents Support Them.\" data-post-slug=\"http:\/\/vegan-dem-megadonor-bankman-fried-subsisting-on-bread-and-water-in-jail-lawyer-says\" data-post-url id=\"print-1785768\">\n<div>\n<p><h2>77 \u200dpercent\u200c of New Jerseyans think schools should tell parents when their child wants to change genders, new poll finds<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Matt Platkin (New Jersey Office of the Attorney\u200d General Twitter)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>More than three-quarters of New Jerseyans \u2062want schools to \u2063notify parents when their child expresses\u200c a \u2062change in gender identity, \u2063according to a new \u200dpoll, a finding that comes as the state&#8217;s liberal attorney \u200bgeneral sues to stop the practice.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy-seven percent of New Jersey\u2064 adults think the state&#8217;s middle and high schools &#8220;should be\u200b required to\u2064 notify parents if their child wants to be identified \u200bas a different gender\u200d than what is on their school\u200b registration,&#8221;\u200b according to a Monmouth University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/polling-institute\/reports\/monmouthpoll_NJ_082223\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a> published Tuesday. The policy is not just popular among Republican voters\u201481 percent of independents and 61 percent \u200dof Democrats also support\u2063 the requirement, the poll\u2062 found.<\/p>\n<p>Parental notification \u200bpolicies have become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/10-ways-to-save-the-modern-awards-show\/\" title=\"10 Ways To Save The Modern Awards Show\">hot-button issue<\/a> in the Garden State after\u2064 Attorney General Matt Platkin (D.) in May and June <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/new-jerseys-dem-ag-sues-three-school-districts-over-parental-rights-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sued four school districts<\/a> that passed measures requiring \u2062teachers to inform parents should \u200btheir child \u2062exhibit a change in his or her gender identity. Parents would be informed, for example, if their child chooses to be called \u2063by a different name or seeks to use\u200c a different bathroom or locker room than\u2062 the one that \u2063coincides with his or her biological sex. While Platkin \u2062and New \u200dJersey Democratic\u2062 governor Phil Murphy say \u200bthose policies put &#8220;LGBTQ+ students&#8221; at risk,\u200d parents disagree, according \u2062to the poll.<\/p>\n<p>Platkin&#8217;s office declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the parental \u2062notification findings, the Monmouth poll found that most New Jersey\u2064 adults\u2064 do not want schools to \u200dteach students about\u2062 gender identity until high school. During a July 23 CBS \u2062News appearance, Murphy argued that schools that fail \u200dto notify parents when their child exhibits a change in gender identity are merely following \u200b&#8221;the American way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Listen,\u200c we took these actions because it&#8217;s the right thing to do,&#8221; Murphy said. &#8220;Let&#8217;s protect \u2064the rights of\u200d these precious kids.
