Bankman-Fried has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-paves-way-for-dem-megadonor-sbf-to-face-trial\/\" title=\"Judge allows Democratic megadonor SBF to proceed to trial.\">acknowledged inadequate risk management<\/a> at FTX, but has denied stealing \u2063customer funds.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment no longer charges Bankman-Fried with conspiring to violate U.S.\u200d campaign finance laws.\u2062 Prosecutors said the Bahamas, which extradited Bankman-Fried to\u2064 the United States in December 2022, \u2063objected to him being tried on that count.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s office in Manhattan said they\u2064 would nevertheless seek to show that the $100\u2063 million Bankman-Fried allegedly donated to U.S. political campaigns\u200d and\u200c causes was part of \u2062his \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ftxs-bankman-fried-subsisting-on-bread-and-water-in-jail-lawyer-says\/\" title=\"FTX's Bankman-Fried surviving on minimal food in jail, attorney claims.\">wider-ranging fraud scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than\u2063 95 percent\u200b of Bankman-Fried&#8217;s contributions went to Democrats and Democratic committees, \u200bthe <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/bankman-fried-and-cronies-gave-300k-to-house-committee-members-investigating-him\/\">reported<\/a>. The crypto CEO\u200d and his cofounders at FTX \u200dgave more\u2064 than $300,000 to members of the House committee that investigated the company&#8217;s collapse.<\/p>\n<p>At Tuesday&#8217;s hearing, his lawyers said\u2062 the jail&#8217;s failure to provide him with the medication Adderall to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vegan-dem-megadonor-bankman-fried-subsisting-on-bread-and-water-in-jail-lawyer-says\/\" title=\"Vegan Dem Megadonor Bankman-Fried's Lawyer Claims He's Eating Only Bread and Water in Jail.\">treat attention deficit \u2063hyperactive disorder\u2014<\/a>despite \u200ca court order for the facility to do so\u2014and serve him vegan food \u2063would hinder his ability to \u2063participate in preparing his defense case.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because \u2062he&#8217;s following his principles, he is literally now \u200csubsisting on bread and water,&#8221;\u2064 Cohen said, adding that\u2064 his client&#8217;s supply \u2063of the medication Emsam to treat\u2064 depression was running low.<\/p>\n<p>Kaplan, who will oversee Bankman-Fried&#8217;s\u2064 trial, on\u200c Aug. 14 ordered the jail \u2064to provide the defendant with the two drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Netburn said during the hearing \u2062she would ask the U.S.\u2064 Justice Department&#8217;s Bureau of Prisons, which runs the jail, to address the issues with Bankman-Fried&#8217;s medication. Netburn said she was &#8220;reasonably confident&#8221;\u200d the facility\u2014long plagued by conditions public defenders have called \u200b&#8221;inhumane&#8221;\u2014offered \u2062vegetarian food, but was not sure vegan food was available.<\/p>\n<p>In a\u2064 statement, the Bureau of Prisons said MDC inmates had access to &#8220;appropriate&#8221; healthcare, medicine and\u200b hot meals. \u2063It \u2064said the facility &#8220;provides nutritionally adequate meals&#8221; following the requirements\u200d of a national menu that is &#8220;analyzed yearly to ensure all dietary requirements are met.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried was jailed after sharing the personal writings of his former romantic partner and colleague, Caroline Ellison, with a New York Times reporter.
