Construction\u200c is currently underway at \u200cFederal Center\u200d SW, Wheaton, and Court House, with \u200dcompletion expected in early September.<\/p>\n<h3>Positive Impact on Fare Evasion<\/h3>\n<p>At Fort Totten, the installation of the higher gates was completed on July \u200c25. The percentage of no-tap rides,\u200c where riders fail to tap \u200dtheir fare cards, decreased from \u200c13% before the retrofit to just 8% after the \u200bretrofit, representing a significant 71% \u2062change. Similarly, \u200cat Mt. Vernon Square, no-tap rides \u2064decreased by an impressive 84%, dropping from 15% before the gates \u200bwere installed on August 16 to a mere 2%.<\/p>\n<p>Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke expressed his satisfaction\u2064 with the new faregate design, stating, &#8220;After\u200c testing multiple prototypes and getting feedback from customers, the new faregate\u2063 design is having its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dc-metro-says-new-fare-gates-have-decreased-fare-evasion-by-70\/\" title=\"DC Metro reports 70% decrease in fare evasion with new gates.\">intended effect \u2014 reducing fare \u200devasion<\/a>. The height of the barriers has also been \u2064increased from the original 28- \u2063to 48-inch prototype to\u200d an\u200c impressive 55 inches.
