\u200bCo. \u200dfilm \u201cBlue Beetle,\u201d released Friday, was \u200ctouted\u200d as DC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/blue-beetle-director-screening-dc-first-latino-led-superhero-movie-1235567776\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first Latino-led<\/a> superhero \u200bmovie.<\/p>\n<p>Initially conceived as a streaming-exclusive \u2062production, \u2064\u201cBlue Beetle\u201d \u2014 starring Xolo Maridue\u00f1a in the title role \u2014 \u2063found its place as the penultimate chapter of the former era \u200dof \u200dthe\u200b DC Extended\u2063 Universe, which is set to undergo \u2063a <a href=\"https:\/\/thedirect.com\/article\/james-gunn-dc-reboot-actors-appear-universe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revitalization<\/a> under the collaborative guidance\u200d of James Gunn and the almost\u200d past 2 decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why did it underperform?<\/p>\n<p>Deadline\u2019s Anthony D\u2019Alessandro\u00a0said the box office total \u201cisn\u2019t shocking next to other Latino and Hispanic fueled \u2064action pics\u201d and suggested poor promotion was to\u2063 blame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy wasn\u2019t this movie even strutted at San Diego\u200c Comic-Con?\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201c[H]ow\u200b much \u200cdoes it cost for a studio to rent two movie auditoriums, popcorn and soda, and two-night hotel \u200baccommodations for a director\u2063 so that the movie can be shown off to\u200d fans and screamed across\u2062 social media?\u201d D\u2019Alessandro said.<\/p>\n<p>He also wrote Sunday \u200dthat\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hurricane-hilary-expected-strengthen-heavy-impacts-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tropical Storm Hilary<\/a> might keep moviegoers in\u200c Southern California from \u2064seeing the film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf \u2063it\u2019s heavy \u200brains, no one is going out,\u201d D\u2019Alessandro \u2063said.<\/p>\n<p><a
