In Europe, Ubisoft will get a non-exclusive licence for Activision\u2019s \u200drights \u200cto enable \u200cit to offer those games in that region too.<\/p>\n<p>EU antitrust regulators\u2063 are examining whether \u2064Microsoft\u2019s proposal to gain UK approval would affect its concessions to the European Commission, a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Activision rose 1% after the U.S. market\u2063 opened. Microsoft\u2064 was up 0.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Tom \u200dSmith, a partner at law firm \u200bGeradin Partners and previously legal director at the CMA, said it now looked like the deal would go through. \u2064\u201cThe process has\u200b been torturous, and there\u2019s still possibly scope for the wheels to come off, but we shouldn\u2019t expect Big Tech deals to \u200bsail through nowadays,\u201d he \u200ctold Reuters.  <\/p>\n<p>Microsoft said \u2064on Tuesday it believed its new proposal was  \u201csubstantially different\u201d and it expected it to be \u2063reviewed by the\u2062 CMA by Oct. 18. <\/p>\n<p>The CMA said\u2063 it would examine the new deal under its usual system, with a Phase 1 process ending on Oct. 18. If it\u200d still has concerns about the impact on \u2063competition, the \u2063CMA could open a much longer Phase 2 examination. <\/p>\n<p>The two American companies have\u2064 already extended the deal deadline \u2063\u2013 pushing it back by three months to Oct. 18\u200d \u2013 after\u2063 the regulatory process took longer than\u2062 expected. <\/p>\n<p>Alex Haffner, competition \u200cpartner\u200b at UK law \u200bfirm Fladgate, said\u200c he did not believe Microsoft would \u2064have\u200c taken \u2064this new step\u2063 if \u200cit did not \u2063believe it would be able to get the new deal past the British regulator by \u2064Oct. 18.<\/p>\n<p>EFFECTIVE COMPETITION<\/p>\n<p>CMA Chief Executive Sarah \u200dCardell said the UK regulator would\u200d now look \u2063closely\u2063 at the new deal, including seeking the thoughts of third parties. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal has\u200c not changed \u2013 \u2063any future decision on this new deal will ensure that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/microsoft-activision-to-sell-streaming-rights-to-secure-biggest-video-gaming-deal\/\" title=\"Microsoft and Activision to sell streaming rights for major gaming deal.\">growing cloud gaming market \u2064continues<\/a> to benefit\u200d from \u200copen and effective competition driving innovation and choice,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA will argue\u2062 that \u2062the major concession by Microsoft\u2062 shows the success of its tough approach to tech deals \u200csince it became a standalone regulator following Britain\u2019s departure from the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>Competition\u200d lawyers have argued, however, that the divergence with Brussels and the back-and-forth over the deal have introduced huge uncertainty to \u200dthe regulatory landscape.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Trade Commission in the United States also opposed the deal, but it has failed in its bids to block it.
