These officials are alleged to have attended or been briefed on \u2064a meeting where prosecutor David Weiss discussed the extent of his authority to\u2063 pursue charges against Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<p>The subpoenas were issued \u200cby Reps. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) and Jason Smith (R., Mo.), chairmen\u2064 of the House Judiciary Committee\u200c and House Ways and Means Committee, respectively. They are seeking the officials&#8217; participation in an Oct. 7, 2022, \u200dmeeting where the\u2062 Department of Justice&#8217;s probe into the first son was reportedly discussed.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, \u200cIRS whistleblower Gary Shapley revealed that Weiss,\u2062 who is now the special\u2063 counsel in the Biden investigation,\u2063 stated that he\u200b was &#8220;not\u2062 the deciding person on whether \u2062charges are filed&#8221; against Hunter Biden. However, Weiss and Attorney General Merrick Garland have both claimed that Weiss had total prosecutorial\u2062 discretion.<\/p>\n<p>The subpoenaed officials \u200binclude IRS director of field operations Michael Batdorf, IRS \u200bspecial agent in charge Darrell \u200bWaldon, FBI special agent in charge Thomas Sobocinski, and FBI assistant \u2063special agent in charge Ryeshia Holley. According to Shapley, all the officials attended the meeting except for \u2064Batdorf, to whom Shapley sent an email recounting the details of the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our Committees, along with the Committee on Oversight \u2063and Accountability, have sought these interviews since IRS whistleblowers\u2062 came forward with\u200c concerning allegations of political interference in the investigation into \u200cHunter \u2063Biden\u2019s foreign \u2064influence peddling and tax evasion,&#8221; the Republicans said\u2064 in a \u200dstatement.<\/p>\n<p>They added that they \u200care seeking understanding on &#8220;how the President\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-subpoena-4-officials-who-witnessed-alleged-politicization-of-hunter-biden-probe\/\" title=\"GOP subpoenas 4 witnesses of alleged politicization in Hunter Biden probe.\">son received special treatment<\/a> from federal prosecutors and who was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-proposes-bill-making-child-rapists-face-life-in-prison-or-death-penalty-cracking-down-on-drug-crime\/\" title=\"DeSantis Proposes Bill Making Child Rapists Face Life In Prison Or Death Penalty, Cracking Down On Drug Crime\">ultimate decision maker<\/a> in the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This development comes after the \u2063 <em>Washington Post<\/em> \u200b reported that Weiss had previously worked with President Joe Biden&#8217;s late \u2062son, Beau Biden. Weiss was also reportedly prepared \u2063to drop the investigation without charging \u200dHunter Biden before Shapley and another IRS whistleblower, Joseph Ziegler, came forward, alleging that the Justice Department had \u2063sabotaged the investigation into\u2063 the \u200bfirst son.<\/p>\n<p>After years of probing Hunter Biden\u2063 over alleged tax and gun crimes, Weiss &#8220;appeared willing to forgo any prosecution of Mr. Biden at all, and his office came close to agreeing to end the investigation without requiring a guilty plea on any charges,&#8221; the <em>New York Times<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>However, after the whistleblowers testified before Congress that the DOJ shielded Hunter Biden \u200dand his father from scrutiny, Weiss and his deputy Lesley Wolf changed their tune,\u2062 deciding that the \u2063first son should plead guilty to tax charges.<\/p>\n<p>These subpoenas\u200c are part of a larger House investigation into a plea deal that Hunter\u2062 Biden struck with the DOJ this summer, which ultimately \u200dfell apart. House Republicans initiated the probe last\u2062 month with a letter\u200c to Garland, seeking more details on the approval process of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>The deal would have allowed the first\u2063 son to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/grassley-plea-deal-ignores-significant-body-of-evidence-of-hunter-bidens-other-criminal-schemes\/\" title=\"Grassley: Plea Deal Disregards Hunter Biden's Other Crimes\">avoid prison time<\/a> and receive broad immunity from\u2062 further prosecution in exchange for pleading guilty to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/presidents-son-gets-sweetheart-deal-from-feds-on-gun-tax-charges\/\" title=\"President\u2019s Son Gets Sweetheart Deal From Feds on Gun, Tax Charges\">misdemeanor tax crimes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, federal\u200b judge Maryellen\u200c Noreika rejected the plea deal, taking issue with the\u2062 broad immunity that Hunter \u200dBiden would have received.
