Today&#8217;s story will examine elections.<\/p>\n<h3>The Thorny Issue\u2063 of the 2020 Election<\/h3>\n<p>Whether\u2064 former \u200cPresident Donald Trump lost \u2063the 2020 election and\u200c why\u200b has \u2064served as\u200b something \u200bof a litmus test for Republican primary candidates navigating the popularity of the former president.<\/p>\n<p>Those questions have become thornier, thanks to a pair of indictments facing \u2064Trump and\u200b his \u200bassociates over their conduct after the 2020 race.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For \u2063most candidates, the answers have reflected\u2063 a careful balance \u200cbetween maintaining general election viability with moderates and primary election credibility with conservatives.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Where the Top\u2062 Candidates Stand<\/h3>\n<h4>Donald Trump<\/h4>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, Trump remains\u200b committed\u2062 to the false \u2064claim that cheating cost him a second \u200cterm.<\/p>\n<p>He has protested \u2063the election results in prolific posts on his \u2064Truth Social platform and during interviews\u200b and speeches.<\/p>\n<p>During \u200ca\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tv-network-ratings-drop-during-bidens-first-full-week-in-office\/\" title=\"TV Network Ratings Drop During Biden\u2019s First Full Week in Office\">town hall event<\/a> \u2063with Fox News last month,\u2064 Trump briefly appeared to agree with the premise \u200dthat he should embrace early voting\u2063 and ballot harvesting, both of which \u2064he opposed \u200bduring his 2020 reelection bid,\u2064 but he\u2063 quickly shifted to claims\u200c that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/up-for-debate-trump-desantis-and-2024-gop-hopefuls-stance-on-elections\/\" title=\"Debate: Trump, DeSantis, and 2024 GOP hopefuls' views on elections.\">election workers \u201ccreate phony \u200bballots<\/a>,\u201d rendering other tactical considerations moot.<\/p>\n<p>However, in July, Trump recorded a video\u2064 for the Republican National Committee \u200durging voters to cast their ballots early, appearing to support a broader\u2063 push within the party to utilize legal voting tools more aggressively in future elections.<\/p>\n<h4>Ron \u200cDeSantis<\/h4>\n<p>DeSantis\u2062 has stopped short of endorsing \u200bTrump\u2019s claims of a stolen election without\u200b defending the election itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf\u200b course \u200che lost \u2026 Joe Biden is the president,\u201d DeSantis told NBC News \u200bon Aug. \u200d7. \u201cBut the \u200bissue\u2062 is, \u200cI think, what people\u2062 in\u2062 the\u200b media and elsewhere \u2014 they want to act like somehow, this was just, like, the perfect election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think\u2062 it was a good-run election, but\u200b I \u200dalso\u200d think Republicans didn\u2019t fight back. You\u2019ve got \u2062to fight back when that is happening,\u201d DeSantis added.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u200c also told \u2062an \u200cIowa voter in June that he would push to expand\u200b ballot harvesting, noting that\u200c to do otherwise would be to \u201cfight with one hand behind my back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many Republicans have questioned whether the GOP\u2019s reluctance to engage in ballot harvesting, the legal \u2062practice \u200cof allowing a third party to collect ballots from multiple \u200bother voters, hurt the party in 2020 and the 2022 midterm elections.<\/p>\n<h4>Tim \u200dScott<\/h4>\n<p>The South Carolina senator has, like DeSantis,\u2064 acknowledged Republican voters\u2019 concerns about how the 2020 election unfolded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not believe the election was \u2062stolen,&#8221; Scott said\u200c during \u200ba July 14 town hall event in Iowa, according to NBC News. &#8220;There was cheating, but was the election stolen? There\u2019s a difference. I think\u2062 [in] \u2064 every election there\u2019s cheating.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scott, a proponent \u200bof voter \u2062ID laws, supported voting by mail\u2064 before the 2020\u2062 election, encouraging \u2063voters not to \u200dbe\u200c wary of \u200bthe practice in the fall of 2020.<\/p>\n<h4>Nikki Haley<\/h4>\n<p>A former \u2063Trump administration Cabinet member, Haley\u200c made headlines in 2020 when she came out forcefully against Trump\u2019s election denial and his rhetoric\u200b in the \u2064lead-up to the Jan. 6 riots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe went down a path he shouldn\u2019t have, \u200band we shouldn\u2019t have followed him, and we shouldn\u2019t have listened to him.\u200c And we \u2062can\u2019t let that ever happen again,\u201d she \u2064told Politico just days \u200cafter the violence.<\/p>\n<p>Her recent statements have focused on restoring the \u200dpublic\u2019s trust in\u200b the electoral system rather \u200cthan bashing Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s important\u200b that voters want to have election integrity. That\u2019s the biggest thing,\u201d Haley said during a CNN town hall event on June 4.\u201dWhen you look at\u200b what happened, you know, you had mail-out balloting that was happening. We know that there was harvesting that\u200b was happening. And then you had secretaries of state that did things without \u200capproval from their legislatures. Those\u200d are pretty serious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Haley praised \u200dstate legislatures that \u200dhave passed election integrity \u200blaws since 2020 to \u200dreverse some\u200b of \u2063the pandemic-era policies that\u200d lent to a sense of distrust among some voters.<\/p>\n<p>In November, Haley pushed for her party to embrace early-voting tactics as fully as\u2063 Democrats have. She blamed a\u200b failure to do so\u2062 for causing Republicans to fall short of expectations during\u2062 the \u200dmidterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were completely outplayed electorally,\u201d she said\u2062 during a Republican Jewish Coalition event. \u2064\u201cThe Democrats did \u2063a full-court press to vote early. We sat on our hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Vivek Ramaswamy<\/h4>\n<p>A successful technology entrepreneur, Ramaswamy has \u2063blamed\u200b technology companies for skewing the results of \u200cthe 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 2020 election was stolen principally by Big\u200d Tech,\u201d\u2064 Ramaswamy told \u200dconservative commentator Candace Owens on \u200dAug. 11. \u201cThe Google search algorithms that suppressed actual stories that you could have\u2064 read on Donald Trump, Hunter Biden laptop story \u2014 suppressed on the eve of an election. There\u2019s definitive data\u200b showing that\u2064 that would have changed the outcome of the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a break with rivals, Ramaswamy has\u200b proposed raising the voting age to 25 unless people\u2064 younger than that complete\u200d six months of military or first responder service or otherwise pass the U.S. \u2064citizenship test.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaswamy has said the change, which would \u2063require a \u2064constitutional amendment and therefore is a \u2064lofty goal, \u200cwould \u2064give young people a greater\u2062 appreciation for the privilege of the \u200cright \u2064to \u2064vote.<\/p>\n<p>On whether he would have blocked Trump\u2019s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, Ramaswamy\u200d has demurred, arguing he would \u200bnever have allowed the situation to \u200dreach the boiling point it did\u200b on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<h4>Others<\/h4>\n<p>Former\u2064 Vice President Mike Pence\u200d has taken one of the strongest stances against Trump\u2019s 2020 rhetoric,\u200b arguing repeatedly that the election was not stolen.<\/p>\n<p>The potential for Pence to serve as a witness against Trump in the \u2063former president\u2019s trial \u2063has pushed Pence to defend his actions\u200c on Jan. 6 more \u2062forcefully.
