They\u2064 have approved the first vaccine for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-quietly-removes-law-that-prioritized-immigrants-who-were-less-likely-to-need-welfare\/\" title=\"Biden Administration Quietly Removes Law That Prioritized Immigrants Who Were Less Likely To Need Welfare\">pregnant women<\/a> to prevent respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections in\u2063 babies and toddlers.<\/p>\n<p>The vaccine, called \u200dPfizer&#8217;s Abrysvo, is \u2064a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-approves-pfizers-rsv-vaccine-for-pregnant-women\/\" title=\"FDA OKs Pfizer's RSV Vaccine for Expectant Mothers\">groundbreaking single-dose\u2062 injection administered<\/a> into the muscle. It has been approved for \u2063use between 32 and\u200c 36\u200c weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>What makes this vaccine even more remarkable is\u2063 that pregnant women who\u2063 receive it will\u2063 pass on immunity to their unborn babies, protecting them\u200b from\u2062 lower respiratory\u200b tract disease (LRTD) and severe LRTD caused by RSV until \u2062they are \u2063at \u2062least 6 months \u200bold.<\/p>\n<p>This approval\u200c comes after a unanimous vote by 14 \u2064members of the FDA&#8217;s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) in May, recommending the use of\u2064 this drug in pregnant women to \u200dsafeguard newborns and infants.<\/p>\n<p>Abrysvo has also received approval for use \u2063in individuals aged 60 and older to protect against RSV.<\/p>\n<h3>RSV: A Common Virus with Serious Consequences<\/h3>\n<p>RSV is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-data-for-masked-vs-unmasked-counties-would-be-on-every-front-page-if-it-showed-a-different-result\/\" title=\"This Data For Masked Vs Unmasked Counties Would Be On Every Front Page, If It Showed a Different Result\">respiratory virus<\/a> that usually causes mild\u200d illness\u2063 in healthy adults,\u200c with symptoms like a runny\u200d nose, coughing, and fever. However, it\u200d is \u200dparticularly common and dangerous in children, often leading to serious conditions such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, RSV results in millions of\u2062 outpatient visits and hundreds of deaths\u200c among children under \u20645 years old in the \u200dUnited States.<\/p>\n<h2>Longevity and Potential Side Effects<\/h2>\n<p>The FDA has announced \u2062that clinical studies evaluating the effectiveness of Abrysvo \u200chave shown\u200d promising results. \u2063The\u2063 drug reduced the risk\u2064 of \u200bsevere LRTD by \u206381.8% within 90 days after\u200b birth and by 69.4%\u2064 within 180 days after birth.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200b a study involving approximately 3,500 pregnant women, \u2064Abrysvo led to \u2064a 34.7% reduction in LRTD risk and a 91.1% reduction in severe\u200d LRTD risk within 90 days after birth.<\/p>\n<p>While the vaccine has shown great\u2064 potential, there have \u2062been some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-our-medical-agencies-desperately-need-an-overhaul\/\" title=\"Medical agencies urgently require a complete overhaul.\">reported side\u2063 effects<\/a>\u200d among pregnant women\u2064 who \u2062received it, including pain at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-says-one-dose-johnson-johnson-covid-19-vaccine-is-safe-effective\/\" title=\"FDA Says One-Dose Johnson &#038; Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine Is Safe, Effective\">injection site<\/a>, headache, \u2062muscle pain, and nausea.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that\u200d although rare, a serious hypertensive disorder known as pre-eclampsia has been \u200cassociated with the\u2063 vaccine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FDA approved Pfizer&#8217;s Abrysvo vaccine on Aug. 21.
