Photo by Bill Pugliano\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/james-meyers\">James Meyers<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>4:40 PM \u2013\u200d Monday, August 21, 2023<\/h3>\n<p>After almost three years since\u200d the failed \u200bplot to kidnap Michigan\u2019s Democrat Governor\u2064 Gretchen Whitmer, defendants who allegedly took part in the activity went on trial \u200bon Monday. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the planned militia plot was halted by the FBI, with 14 men who were involved being\u2064 arrested weeks before the\u2062 November 2020 election. <\/p>\n<p>The three who took the stand on Monday were Eric Molitor and brothers William Null and Michael Null. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors claimed that they were anti-government extremists, enraged by Whitmer\u2019s (D-Mich.) COVID-19 policies, which forced schools and businesses\u200c to be closed down.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, prosecutors alleged that the men on trial were \u200ca part of a \u201cright-wing\u200c gang\u201d\u200b and were plotting to attack the\u200b State Capitol, with hopes of igniting\u2064 a civil war.  <\/p>\n<p>Currently, nine of \u2063the 14 men \u200chave already been convicted, with four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sanctuary-state-illinois-illegal-alien-gets-20-years-for-killing-two-legal-immigrants\/\" title=\"Sanctuary State Illinois: Illegal Alien Gets 20 Years for Killing Two Legal Immigrants\">entering guilty pleas<\/a> and two others \u200dbeing acquitted. <\/p>\n<p>Molitor and the Null brothers were allegedly planning to kidnap \u2064Whitmer at her vacation residence at Lake Michigan and take her hostage before \u200bthe 2020 election. <\/p>\n<p>However,\u2064 the three defendants claimed that they were set\u200b up by the government \u200cand are currently charged with material support for \u200cterrorist acts and illegally possessing firearms.<\/p>\n<p>If the defendants are\u200c convicted\u2063 they could face up to a maximum of 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThese cases are very important in light of the times we live in,\u201d\u2063 said Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. attorney in \u200bMichigan. \u201cActs \u200bof political violence have \u200bno place in a democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Opening arguments for the trial are scheduled\u2062 to begin Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
