Roskosmos said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It said a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/russias-first-lunar-mission-in-47-years-crashes-into-the-moon-in-failure\/\" title=\"Russia's lunar mission fails as spacecraft crashes into the moon after 47 years.\">special inter-departmental commission<\/a> had been formed to investigate\u200b the reasons behind the loss of the \u2064Luna-25 craft, whose mission had raised hopes in Moscow\u2063 that Russia was returning to the big power moon race.<\/p>\n<p>The failure underscored the decline of Russia&#8217;s space power since the\u200b glory days of Cold War competition when Moscow was the first to launch a \u200bsatellite to orbit\u2062 the Earth\u2014Sputnik 1, in 1957\u2014and Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the\u2062 first man to travel into space in 1961.<\/p>\n<p>It also comes as Russia&#8217;s\u200c $2 trillion economy faces its biggest external challenge for decades: the pressure of both Western sanctions and fighting\u2063 the biggest land war in Europe\u200b since World War Two.<\/p>\n<p>Though moon missions are fiendishly difficult,\u200d and many U.S. and Soviet attempts have failed, Russia had not attempted a moon mission since \u200cLuna-24 in 1976, when Communist leader \u2064Leonid Brezhnev ruled\u200d the Kremlin.<\/p>\n<p>Russian state television put news of the loss of Luna-25 at number 8 in its line up at noon and gave it just 26 seconds of coverage, after a news about fires on Tenerife and a 4 minute item about a professional holiday for Russian pilots \u2062and crews.<\/p>\n<h3>Failed Moonshot<\/h3>\n<p>Russia has\u2063 been racing against India, \u200cwhose Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is scheduled to land on the moon&#8217;s south pole this week, and more broadly against China and the United States which both have advanced lunar ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>As news of the Luna-25 failure broke, the Indian Space Research\u2064 Organisation (ISRO) posted on X, formerly Twitter, that Chandrayaan-3 was set to land on Aug. \u206223.<\/p>\n<p>Russian officials had hoped that the Luna-25 mission would show Russia can compete \u200cwith the\u200c superpowers in space despite its post-Soviet decline and the vast cost of the Ukraine war.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5g-chaos-is-one-of-the-most-delinquent-utterly-irresponsible-seen-in-aviation-career-emirates-president-says\/\" title=\"5G Chaos Is \u2018One Of The Most Delinquent, Utterly Irresponsible\u2019 Seen In Aviation Career, Emirates President Says\">flight control system<\/a> was a vulnerable area, which had to go through\u2062 many fixes,&#8221; said Anatoly Zak, the\u200b creator and publisher of www.RussianSpaceWeb.com which tracks Russian space \u2062programs.<\/p>\n<p>Zak said Russia had also gone for the much more ambitious moon landing before undertaking a simpler orbital mission &#8211; the usual practice for\u2062 the Soviet Union, the United States, China and India.<\/p>\n<p>While Luna-25 went beyond the earth&#8217;s orbit &#8211; unlike the \u200dfailed 2011 Fobos-Grunt mission to one of the moon&#8217;s of Mars &#8211; the crash could impact Russia&#8217;s\u200c moon program, which envisages several more missions over \u2064coming years including a\u200d possible joint effort \u2064with \u200dChina.<\/p>\n<p>Russian scientists have repeatedly \u2063complained that the space program has been weakened by poor managers who are keen for \u2062unrealistic vanity space projects, corruption and a decline \u2064in the\u2063 rigour of Russia&#8217;s post-Soviet scientific education system.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It \u200dis so sad that\u200c it was not possible to land the apparatus,&#8221; said Mikhail Marov, a leading Soviet physicist and astronomer.<\/p>\n<p>Marov, 90, was hospitalised in Moscow after news of the failure of Luna-25 was announced, although details of what he was ill \u2062with were not available.<\/p>\n<p>Marov told the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper that he hoped the reasons behind the crash\u200b would be discussed and\u2064 examined rigorously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was perhaps the last hope for me to see a revival of our lunar program,&#8221;
