The California Department of\u200d Motor\u200d Vehicles (DMV) has asked Cruise to take half its robotaxis off the roads.<\/p>\n<p>The statement from the DMV\u200c comes after a\u200c Cruise robotaxi was\u2064 involved in a crash\u2062 with an emergency vehicle in San\u200b Francisco late on Thursday, \u200dthe latest \u2064accident involving the self-driving cars.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The regulator also said it has asked Cruise to immediately reduce its active fleet of vehicles by 50% until the investigation is\u2062 complete and Cruise\u200b takes\u2062 actions\u2062 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/another-2-trillion-here-are-the-key-components-of-bidens-massive-infrastructure-plan\/\" title=\"Another  Trillion: Here Are The Key Components of Biden\u2019s Massive Infrastructure Plan\">improve road safety<\/a>. \u2064Cruise\u2062 has agreed to a \u200c50%\u2062 reduction, it added. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe DMV reserves the right, following investigation of the \u200dfacts, to \u2063suspend or revoke testing and\/or deployment permits\u201d if it is determined to be an unreasonable risk to public safety, the regulator said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>Cruise said \u200done\u2064 of its \u200ccars \u2063\u201centered the intersection\u200c on a green light and \u2062was \u200bstruck by an emergency vehicle that appeared to be \u200den route to an emergency scene\u201d after 10 p.m. on \u2062Thursday (0500 GMT Friday).<\/p>\n<p>The car \u201cdid identify the \u200brisk \u200dof a \u2064collision\u200d and\u2064 initiated a\u2063 braking maneuver, reducing its speed, but was ultimately unable to avoid the \u2062collision,\u201d the company, which is\u200d investigating the incident, said in a\u2063 statement on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>Initial investigation shows \u2064the collision occurred when a fire truck was operating in an emergency with its forward facing red lights and siren on, the San Francisco Police Department said in a statement to Reuters. <\/p>\n<p>The police said the sole passenger in \u2064the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/growing-advertising-model-puts-reporters-and-lawmakers-at-the-center-of-the-corporate-pitch\/\" title=\"Growing Advertising Model Puts Reporters and Lawmakers at the Center of the Corporate Pitch\">autonomous vehicle<\/a> \u200d(AV) was transported to a \u2064local hospital with non<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/off-duty-austin-police-officer-forced-to-confront-armed-suspect\/\" title=\"Off-duty Austin police officer forced to confront armed suspect\">-life-threatening injuries<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The California Public Utilities Commission\u200c (CPUC) last\u200b week voted to allow robotaxis from Cruise and Alphabet\u2019s Waymo to\u2063 operate at all hours of the day throughout San Francisco and charge passengers for rides despite \u2064strong opposition from residents and city \u2063agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The two have \u2062been \u2064running robotaxi tests limited by times and geographic areas within San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>City Attorney David \u200cChiu \u2062asked the CPUC on Thursday to halt its \u2063decision while the city \u200cfiles for \u200ca re-hearing.\u2063 \u201cWe have seen that this technology is not \u2064yet ready, and poor AV performance has interfered with \u2062the life-saving\u200c operations of first responders.
