Florida health officials sent out letters informing the providers of the fines for \u2064their violation.<\/p>\n<h3>Rule Upheld Despite Recent Federal\u200d Judge Ruling<\/h3>\n<p>Although a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-florida-fines-medicaid-providers-for-using-tax-dollars-to-cover-trans-treatments-for-minors\/\" title=\"Florida fines Medicaid providers for using tax dollars to cover transgender treatments for minors.\">federal judge recently blocked<\/a> a new law in Florida that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/idaho-house-republicans-pass-transgender-surgery-ban-for-minors\/\" title=\"Idaho House Republicans Pass Transgender-Surgery Ban for Minors\">banned transgender surgeries<\/a> and medications \u200cfor children, a rule from the Agency for Health Care Administration still required Medicaid\u200b plan providers to deny coverage for such treatments.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agency, \u200cthe rule went into effect last August after a thorough review of medical literature on treatments for gender dysphoria in children. It was determined that these treatments are not medically necessary. However, the five providers covered the trans treatments in violation\u200c of the rule, which were \u200ddiscovered during a routine audit\u2062 of the Medicaid\u200b system.<\/p>\n<h3>Possible Political Motivation<\/h3>\n<p>Typically, Medicaid rule violations occur \u2064when providers refuse to pay for covered treatments. The fact that these providers paid for procedures and medications \u2062that had been banned raises\u2064 questions about potential political\u200d motivations.\u2063 While \u2062Jason Weida does not want \u200bto speculate on their reasons, he stated that they will be on notice now and that his office will consider more severe penalties for any future\u200c violations.<\/p>\n<h3>Penalties and Sanctions<\/h3>\n<p>Simply Healthcare, the provider that covered the mastectomy, is facing \u2063a $30,000 penalty and will be sanctioned. The\u200c other providers will also face\u2062 fines, although the exact amounts\u200d have not been specified.\u200c The \u200bnon-willful sanction is the more serious penalty, as it negatively impacts a provider&#8217;s record and must be disclosed when competing for \u2064contracts. Sanctioned providers are \u2063less likely to be awarded state\u200c contracts for 10 years until the sanction expires.
