At 10-years-old, her mother signed away her rights to children, placing Rachael and her younger siblings in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">foster care system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Then, while Rachael was in high school,\u2062 her white <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ca-dept-asks-foster-parents-how-many-migrant-children-they-can-house-includes-option-of-26-or-more\/\" title=\"CA Dept. Asks Foster Parents How Many Migrant Children They Can House, Includes Option Of \u201826 Or More\u2019\">foster parents<\/a> abandoned her and drove to California without leaving a forwarding address, \u2062the Washington Examiner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/a-murder-in-portland\">reported<\/a> \u200dlast December. For years, Rachael moved from friend\u2019s house to friend\u2019s house, until she met Shay\u2064 Whitaker while working at a Subway \u2064restaurant at 19-years-old. Rachael moved in with\u200b Shay \u2063and her mother, and life\u2062 started looking \u2064up.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Rachael Abraham and Shay Whitaker.\u2062 (Shay Whitaker, Washington Examiner)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rachael met Mario\u200d Abraham, married,\u2064 and had three children. Before their marriage, however, Rachael\u2019s little\u2063 sister Marissa was sent back to Eugene, Oregon, on a bus by the same foster parents who abandoned Rachael years earlier. Rachael cared for her 16-year-old sister, who eventually met a man\u200c named Cevelino Capuia. In 2006, Capuia kidnapped a man \u2064and shot him. When he was arrested, he confessed to the\u2064 crime and named \u2063his accomplice, Shawn Ryan Womack. On the day Capuia was arrested, Womack took \u200bRachael\u2019s \u200dlittle sister to\u2063 the Oregon coast and shot her in \u200dthe head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very sad that they took my sister away\u2062 because all we knew \u2063and had was each other,\u201d Rachael\u200c told a local newspaper at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Rachael,\u200d who was of Somali descent, converted from Catholicism to Islam before she\u200c and Mario divorced. She then dated another man,\u200d who was a Muslim Somali, and had \u200danother daughter. After that relationship ended, Rachael began \u200cdating Mohamed Osman Adan, \u200bor Mo, to those \u200cwho knew him.\u2063 Together they had three more\u2062 kids, meaning that by the age of 36,\u200d Rachael \u200bwas mother to\u2064 7 children.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, \u2064however, Mo showed that he \u2064had \u200ca darker side. He repeatedly\u2064 beat her and threatened her. Fed up with the treatment, Rachael made the frightening decision\u2064 to leave him,\u2063 but this only escalated his torture.<\/p>\n<p>Mo knew \u2064where Rachael was living, and would break into her home after midnight and punch, choke, and threaten Rachael, telling\u200b her he would kill\u2062 her. During\u2064 one of these break-ins, he held a gun to her head. Rachael called the police and was told to request \u2062a no-contact\u2062 order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I told him I was leaving him, he told me that he would kill me,\u201d \u2062she\u200c wrote\u200d on\u2063 that request.<\/p>\n<p>Mo was told to stay at least 150 feet\u200c away from Rachael and our children, but he never adhered to the order. On the evening of June \u206223, 2022, Mo\u2064 showed up at Rachael\u2019s home \u2062and was let in by her 4-year-old \u2013 Mo\u2019s daughter. He was on drugs and broke \u2062Rachael\u2019s phone, then blocked her from escaping. For hours, he beat her and \u2064choked \u200cher five times, telling her he was\u2064 \u201cgoing to put you to sleep now,\u201d as he knelt on\u200c her throat.<\/p>\n<p>When Mo finished,\u200b he went upstairs to retrieve his phone, but Rachael got \u200bto it first and ran out the front door, calling the police. With a \u200cvisible \u2062black eye, Rachael told police she believed Mo\u2064 was \u2064going to\u200c kill her.<\/p>\n<p>Mo was charged with five \u200ccounts of felony strangulation but was released from jail with the requirement to wear a GPS ankle monitor. Again,\u200d he ignored his orders and\u200d went to Rachael\u2019s home\u2064 on July 27, 2022, where he cut off the ankle monitor. He later\u200d claimed someone \u2062broke into his apartment and cut it off while he was \u2064asleep. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest, but he was soon back out on the streets.<\/p>\n<p>This time he\u2063 returned to Rachael\u2019s \u200bhome on August 11, 2022, and broke in. He slammed Rachael to the ground and sat on her chest while covering her mouth. Barely able to breathe, she screamed and woke up her children. Mo began whipping Rachael in the\u200b face with prayer\u200d beads before he locked \u2064her outside. He was again arrested and \u2063charged with contempt of court for once\u2062 again violating the no contact order.<\/p>\n<p>Mo\u2019s final attack came on the morning of August 27. He returned to Rachael\u2019s home and began beating and yelling \u200dat her. She managed to \u2062call 911 and\u200c could \u2064be heard saying \u201cI am not doing black magic!\u201d \u200cbefore the line cut out. \u200bThe operator called back, but no \u2063one \u2062answered. Meanwhile, Mo was dragging Rachael to her \u200dchildren\u2019s bedroom, pushed her face into a window screen, and stabbed \u200bher with a kitchen knife. He kept stabbing, even after she died, and then placed her \u200din a bed.<\/p>\n<p>Then, he \u2064called his mother and told her what he had done, took a\u200b shower, and called 911 at 10:41 a.m.\u2063 He told the operator that Rachael was dead and was told to perform CPR, but he refused. He claimed he acted in defense of his children and had taken\u200d the knife from Rachael.<\/p>\n<p>Police arrived and found Rachael\u2019s youngest children \u2013 ages 7, 4, and 2 \u2013 had been in the\u200b house during the killing. \u2062They quickly took the children outside before investigating the home. They found holes in the walls and broken door locks upstairs, as well as a large red stain in one of the children\u2019s bedrooms\u2063 where\u2063 Rachael had died. In the bed, her body was covered by a sheet. Her face had been slashed vertically, \u2062her nose wounded deeply, and her \u2062upper lip sliced in half, the Examiner reported. She had been beaten and stabbed before and after she \u200chad been strangled to death.<\/p>\n<p>The blade\u200b of the kitchen knife \u2064was found on the \u2063floor, its handle missing.<\/p>\n<p>Rachael\u2019s death was made possible\u200b by progressive laws in Oregon that allowed Mo to\u2063 be \u2064released from jail even with his \u2064clear history of abuse, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-law-enforcement-officers-speak-about-border-crisis\/\" title=\"Texas law enforcement officers speak about border crisis\">ignoring court orders<\/a>, and Rachael\u2019s numerous statements that she knew he would kill her.<\/p>\n<p>Many people could have made decisions \u200bthat would \u200bhave meant \u200cRachael was still alive, still \u200cable to hug her \u2062and raise \u2062her \u2062children.\u2064 Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt argued that his office had tried to keep Mo in prison by pursuing what he\u200d called \u2064a \u201chigh bail amount \u2064in \u200bthis case,\u201d which was only $60,000 \u2013 or $6,000 since a 10% surety was all that was required \u2062to get him out of prison. That never mattered \u2063anyway, as Mo was repeatedly released when no bail was actually set until August when Judge Angela Lucero set his bail\u2062 at just $20,000, which only required a $2,000 payment to set him \u2063free.<\/p>\n<p>That bail was paid by Amanda Trujillo of Portland Freedom Fund, a progressive organization that repeatedly posted bail for violent offenders \u200cwho went on to \u2062violate their release conditions\u2063 or skip their court hearings. As the\u2063 Examiner noted, 39 of the 67 people the fund bailed out failed to adhere to court orders or appear in court. That means 58% of the fund\u2019s recipients\u2063 violated court orders \u2063\u2013 compared to the statewide average of 7%.<\/p>\n<p>Trujillo tried multiple times to place the blame for Rachael\u2019s murder on someone else. She said he \u200bhad been\u200c referred by the African Youth and Community\u200d Organization (AYCO), which helps members of the Somali community navigate America\u2019s complicated legal \u200csystem. An advocate at\u200c AYCO, Mohamed Yahia, had been asked by Mo to \u200chelp him fight a DWI charge in Minnesota. Yahia helped Mo fill out a motion for default judgment. Later, Yahia helped get Mo a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/crime-files-portland-progressives-helped-get-a-wife-beater-out-of-prison-he-killed-her\/\" title=\"Portland Progressives aided the release of a domestic abuser, resulting in a tragic loss of life.\">job delivering donated air conditioners<\/a>. In July 2022, Mo \u2062asked Yahia to write him a letter of support saying he had volunteered for the AYCO. Yahia wrote a simple letter stating as much, believing the letter was \u2064going to Mo\u2019s parole officer for the DWI. The letter also contained \u200ba line saying Mo\u2019s temperament had \u201cseen improvement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This, \u2064Trujillo \u200csaid, was the endorsement Portland \u2064Freedom Fund used to decide to bail\u200c out Mo, apparently without doing any independent research, \u200dor\u200b assuming that $20,000 bail for strangulation charges meant \u200bthey weren\u2019t that serious.<\/p>\n<p>There was also\u2062 Judge Benjamin B. Johnston, who let Mo\u2063 out of jail and simply ordered him to \u201cwear GPS [and have] no contact w\/\u2062 Rachael Angel Abraham or children.\u201d\u2063 This came\u2064 after Mo had already proved he would ignore court \u2063orders to stay away from Rachael.<\/p>\n<p>The Portland Freedom Fund\u200b has since dropped \u2062off the radar, shutting down its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sickening-video-shows-antifa-allegedly-stab-4-trump-supporters-in-washington-dc\/\" title=\"Sickening Video Shows Antifa Allegedly Stab 4 Trump Supporters in Washington DC\">social media accounts<\/a>. \u2064It has been called out for its role in Rachael\u2019s murder, and could not withstand the onslaught \u2063of online comments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rachael Abraham faced constant hardships. At 10, her mother relinquished her rights, forcing Rachael and her siblings into foster care. Later, during high school, her foster parents abruptly left for California, leaving no contact details.
