However, now a felon whose case Worrell handled is fighting to \u2063get her job back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Melizaire Dorsica, who had already \u2062been convicted of a felony, \u2064found himself facing another felony charge for carrying a concealed weapon. Worrell\u200b was known for\u200d reducing sentences for defendants\u2064 like Dorsica. He recently filed a petition with Florida&#8217;s\u2063 Ninth Judicial Circuit court, challenging DeSantis&#8217; executive order that removed Worrell from office,\u2062 claiming it was unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAll of\u2064 the grievances cited in\u2063 support of [DeSantis\u2019 order] are attributable to DeSantis\u2019 dissatisfaction with Worrell\u2019s exercise of prosecutorial discretion, not a \u2018blanket policy,\u2019\u201d the petition reads, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/florida-felon-moves-block-desantis-removing-soft-state-attorney-prosecuting-his-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">DeSantis&#8217;\u200b executive order stated, \u201cDuring \u2062Worrell\u2019s \u2063tenure in office, the administration of criminal justice\u2063 in the Ninth Circuit has been so clearly and fundamentally derelict as to \u200bconstitute\u2064 both neglect of duty and incompetence. Worrell has authorized or \u2063allowed practices or policies that\u2064 have systematically permitted violent offenders, drug traffickers, serious-juvenile offenders, and pedophiles to evade incarceration, when otherwise warranted under Florida law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The order further declared, \u201cDespite the Legislature\u2019s policy \u2026 to subject felons who use a firearm in the commission of a violent felony to \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-suspends-soros-backed-state-attorney-for-neglecting-her-duty-to-prosecute-violent-criminals\/\" title=\"DeSantis suspends Soros-backed attorney for neglecting duty to prosecute violent criminals.\">minimum mandatory sentences<\/a>, assistant state attorneys\u2062 in the \u200bNinth Circuit have been prevented or discouraged from pursuing such minimum mandatory sentences\u2026 Worrell\u2019s practices or policies of evading minimum mandatory sentences for gun crimes are corroborated by her prosecutorial record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The order also highlighted data from the Florida Department of Corrections, stating, \u201cWorrell\u2019s practices or policies of evading\u2062 minimum mandatory sentences for gun crimes are further corroborated by data\u200c from the Florida Department of Corrections.
