The complaint raises concerns about Haaland&#8217;s impartiality\u200d due to\u2064 her child&#8217;s involvement in\u200b lobbying against oil and gas development.<\/p>\n<p>Somah Haaland, Secretary Haaland&#8217;s child, works for the Pueblo Action Alliance\u2063 (PAA), a climate group that opposes drilling in the region. PPT argues \u2064that\u2062 Haaland&#8217;s past statements, participation in \u200ba film opposing drilling, and her husband&#8217;s role in a tribe\u2064 that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/haaland-hit-with-ethics-complaint-after-stripping-oil-and-gas-opportunities-from-navajo-nation\/\" title=\"Haaland faces ethics complaint for removing Navajo Nation's oil and gas chances.\">opposes development raise questions<\/a> about\u2063 her ability to \u2064be \u200bimpartial.<\/p>\n<h3>Conflicts\u200b of\u200b Interest \u200dand Opposition<\/h3>\n<p>Haaland&#8217;s husband, Skip Sayre, is\u2063 the \u2062chief of sales\u200d and marketing for the\u200c Laguna Development Corporation, which opposes development in the region. In June, the Interior Department\u200c implemented a protective radius around Chaco Cultural National Historical Park, preventing new oil and gas leases for the\u2062 next\u2063 20 years. House Republicans\u200c have launched their own investigation into \u200cHaaland&#8217;s conflicts of\u200b interest.<\/p>\n<p>While efforts to\u2064 protect the Chaco landscape have been ongoing for years, local \u200bresidents and nearby\u2064 tribes have objected\u2064 to the restrictions. The Navajo Nation, \u2062for example, voted against the \u2064administration&#8217;s \u2062plans to\u200b withdraw acres from leasing\u2062 opportunities. The Western Energy Alliance estimates that the decision will cost the \u2062tribe over\u200b $194 million\u2064 in the next\u2063 two decades.<\/p>\n<h3>Call \u200dfor \u200cImpartiality<\/h3>\n<p>The Western \u2064Energy Alliance\u200c argues that \u200cHaaland&#8217;s membership in the Laguna\u200d Pueblo, her daughter&#8217;s \u200blobbying\u200c efforts, and her role\u2064 as Secretary of\u200b the\u2063 Interior require her to balance the\u2063 interests of all\u2062 tribes, not just favor one side.
