tragedy received\u200c a letter\u2062 from the government that the alleged mastermind of the incident, \u200bKhalid Shaikh Mohammad,\u2063 and his\u200c defendants might not face the\u200b death penalty. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" attacks that the suspected architect behind them and his fellow defendants may never face the\u2064 death penalty under plea agreements that are now under consideration.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Stephanie \u200dthough the letters were \u2062received\u200c this week, the documents were dated \u200bon August 1<sup>st<\/sup>, one and a half \u200cyears \u2062after \u200dmilitary prosecutors and defense attorneys first began exploring a negotiated resolution to the case.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe Office of the Chief Prosecutor has been negotiating and is considering entering into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pentagon-fbi-alert-grieving-9-11-families-architect-of-attack-4-others-may-have-death-penalties-overturned\/\" title=\"Pentagon, FBI notify 9\/11 families: Architect of attack and 4 others may have death penalties revoked.\">pre-trial agreements<\/a>,\u201d the\u2064 letter said. \u201cWhile \u2062no plea agreement has been finalized, \u2062and may never be finalized, it \u2063is possible that a\u200c PTA in\u200c this case would remove the possibility of the \u200ddeath penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mohammad\u2019s trial, along with that of \u2062four other men being held at the U.S. detention \u200bfacility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has been plagued by numerous delays and legal disputes,\u200c particularly regarding the \u200clegal implications of the men\u2019s initial use\u2063 of torture \u200cduring \u2064their interrogation \u200dby the CIA.<\/p>\n<p>The 9\/11 Commission of the United States came to the conclusion that Mohammed was the responsible individual who first suggested a\u2064 coordinated \u200cattack\u2064 on the United States to Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and who was \u2064given permission\u200d by Bin Laden to \u2064plan what would become the 9\/11 attacks. <\/p>\n<p>The other four suspects are \u200caccused of \u2063providing various forms of\u200c support to the Islamic hijackers.<\/p>\n<p>Other 9\/11 family \u2063members, who\u200d are a part \u200bof a network of families who have consistently pushed for answers\u2063 and\u200b accountability over\u200c the years, \u2063said they \u200bwould insist on the right to \u2063interrogate \u200cthe defendants about\u2063 the scope of any official Saudi participation in 9\/11 as part of a plea deal. <\/p>\n<p>Peter Brady, one of the individuals who received a\u2062 letter \u200band whose\u2064 father was \u200bkilled in the attacks, gave his \u200dremarks to the \u200cpress.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-hollywood-stars-who-say-bring-on-cancel-culture\/\" title=\"5 Hollywood Stars Who Say, \u2018Bring on Cancel Culture\u2019\">holding people responsible<\/a>, \u2062and \u2063they\u2019re taking\u200d that away with this plea,\u201d\u200b Brady said. \u201cThe case needs \u200cto go through the legal process, not be \u200dsettled \u200din\u200b a plea deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Defense attorneys and judges have\u2063 shifted throughout the course of the \u200ccase, as they all struggled with the legality and practicalities of the military trial. <\/p>\n<p>A significant portion \u200dof the hearings have been bogged down in legal disputes over how much of the\u200c testimony\u200c should be\u2064
