David Schweikert (R-AZ) explained their concerns with certain \u200cactivities by tax-exempt \u2063groups during elections \u2063in an <a href=\"https:\/\/waysandmeans.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/RFI-on-501c3-and-c4-Activities-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open letter<\/a> seeking input on current \u200cIRS and \u200dcongressional\u200b regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u200cCommittee has learned that a Super Political Action Committee (PAC) recommended donations to 501(c)(3) organizations as \u2018the single most effective tactic\u2064 for ensuring \u200cDemocratic victories\u2019 and that large donations \u2062from a wealthy donor to state\u2063 election offices in 2020 may have \u200cbeen\u2063 done in \u2062a \u2064manner that helps one political party over another,\u201d the letter \u200cfrom Smith \u2064and Schweikert says. \u201cAdditionally, the \u200dCommittee has\u2062 also found that\u2064 significant amounts\u2063 of foreign money is flowing through\u2064 501(c)(3)\u2064 and \u2062501(c)(4) organizations to influence elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 letter says that while 501(c)(3)\u2064 organizations can engage in certain types\u2064 of political activities, there are certain \u2063interventions that are banned,\u2064 such as get out the vote\u2063 and voter registration efforts that are done in a partisan manner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre there any\u2063 tax-exempt organizations whose voter \u200deducation \u2063or\u200c registration activities you suspect might have had the effect of favoring a candidate or group of candidates which would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-using-tax-dollars-to-boost-democrat-registration-and-turnout\/\" title=\"Biden Using Tax Dollars to Boost Democrat Registration and Turnout\">constitute prohibited participation<\/a> or intervention? If yes, please describes \u2064 [sic] those activities?\u201d\u200b the letter asks.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dRepublicans also ask whether there should \u2063be \u2062any new \u2062congressional \u200dlegislation to amend the official IRS\u200b definition of \u201cpolitical campaign intervention\u201d in\u200d light\u200d of \u201cnew forms\u2062 of political advocacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/accountability\/political-ethics\/holdnew-york-rep-says-committee-will-be-investigating-if-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that there was work to be done to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-looking-into-use-of-non-profits-to-improperly-influence-elections\/\" title=\"House Republicans investigating use of non-profits to sway elections.\">check tax-exempt organizations<\/a> and\u2064 counter Democrat election operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to look into whether they\u2019re\u200c abusing the IRS rules\u200d in order to get all kinds of money, whether it\u2019s foreign money\u200d or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sbf-accused-of-funneling-over-100-million-toward-wide-ranging-political-influence-operation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sam Bankman-Fried<\/a>\u2018s mother funneling money in there to target certain types of voters\u2063 in certain demographics in swing states to make sure that they get those vote votes in,\u201d she\u2064 told Just the News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2063 also have \u200cto get people \u2063to understand they need to\u2062 vote and\u200b they need to, we need to\u2063 get those ballots \u200bin the box. Because \u2062when a \u2064Democrat goes to the door, they get a ballot when we\u2064 go to the door, \u2063we say we sure hope you vote\u2063 for \u2062our candidates. And here\u2019s our great persuasive\u200c argument,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Amended to\u2064 the letter included a \u2063discussion of several groups that\u200b Republicans say should be \u200dunder \u2063greater scrutiny, including the Technology and Civic Life (CTCL) and\u200d the Center for Election Innovation \u2064and Research (CEIR).<\/p>\n<p>Following the 2020 \u2064election, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/georgia-bans-counties-from-using-private-money-for-elections-after-2020-zuckerbucks-controversy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">critics\u200d argued<\/a> that the\u2064 massive\u2062 amount of election funding by these groups unfairly benefited Democrat-dominated counties.<\/p>\n<p>Both groups were\u200b backed by Facebook founder\u2063 Mark Zuckerberg, who gave about $419 million to the groups \u200bto give to counties for the 2020 election. In Georgia in 2020, the CTLC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/zuckerbergs-45m-boosted-dem-turnout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gave $30 million<\/a> to counties during the presidential election and another\u200c $14\u200b million during the Senate runoff. This\u2062 money became\u2064 known\u2064 as \u201cZuckerbucks,\u201d \u200bbecause the tech\u2064 billionaire had poured so much money\u200d into the races.<\/p>\n<p>According to an\u200d analysis by the Government Accountability\u200d Foundation, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-bans-counties-from-using-private-money-for-elections-after-2020-zuckerbucks-controversy\/\" title=\"Georgia prohibits counties from using private funds for elections after the 'Zuckerbucks' controversy in 2020.\">spending overwhelmingly favored counties<\/a> that President Joe Biden won. In blue counties, $7.13 \u2062was spent per registered\u2062 voter, while only $1.91 was spent per\u200b registered voter in red counties, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also referenced the donations of Swiss billionaire Hansj\u00f6rg Wyss, \u2064who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/03\/us\/politics\/hansjorg-wyss-money-democrats.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">given<\/a> \u200dhundreds\u200c of millions to Left-leaning non-profit \u200corganizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are concerned about the possibility that foreign nationals are influencing our elections by indirectly donating millions of dollars to organizations\u200b that spend on behalf of or \u200bagainst candidates\u200c for public office without concern about disclosure requirements that would shed light on how exactly their funds are being used,\u201d the letter says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee are investigating the alleged use of tax-exempt organizations to sway elections and channel foreign funds into U.S. elections.
