Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Chief\u2063 Legal Officer at Fox News \u200cLeaves Network\u200d After $787.5\u200c Million Defamation Settlement<\/h2>\n<p>The chief legal officer at Fox News \u2063is leaving the network in the wake \u2063of a devastating $787.5 million defamation\u2064 settlement with Dominion\u2062 Voting Systems over claims that Dominion helped\u200b rig the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Viet Dinh will leave\u200b Fox Corp. at the \u200cend of the year,\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/viet-dinh-to-leave-as-foxs-chief-legal-officer-6a39c4d8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall\u200d Street Journal<\/a> \u2063 reported Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Dinh was \u2064a \u201cclose confidante\u201d of network\u200b CEO\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fox-news-heir-james-murdoch-reportedly-major-anti-trump-force-spent-millions-opposing-2020-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lachlan Murdoch<\/a> and\u2062 the godfather to\u200c one of Murdoch\u2019s\u200d sons, \u200caccording to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/no-brainer-why-fox-just-paid-23-million-to-bench-its-top-lawyer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mediaite<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis strong position at the\u200b company waned following the settlement, some people familiar with the matter\u200c said,\u201d the Journal reported.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Instead of attempting to settle\u200c the Dominion case out of court early on, Dinh clung to what The New York \u200cTimes termed\u200d an\u200d \u201coverly rosy scenario\u201d involving free-speech protections.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHe insisted that Fox was on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-doesnt-the-biden-administration-want-americans-to-see-how-federal-agencies-plan-to-influence-elections\/\" title=\"Why Doesn\u2019t The Biden Administration Want Americans To See How Federal Agencies Plan To Influence Elections?\">firm legal footing<\/a> and could take the case, if need be, all the way to the Supreme Court, \u200bwhere he believed\u200b the company would prevail on First Amendment \u200bgrounds,\u201d the Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>Dinh reportedly refused to settle the case until \u200bhours before it went to trial, which allowed\u2063 the\u200d opposing legal team to obtain\u200d copies of internal memos during the discovery phase.<\/p>\n<p>Those communications indicated \u2063Fox leadership had been skeptical of the election-fraud claims that had \u2062been reported on Fox News programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFox\u2019s legal case was\u200d severely hindered when the judge ruled that it wasn\u2019t entitled to use a First Amendment defense,\u201d the \u2064Journal reported.<\/p>\n<p>Unnamed sources linked Dinh\u2019s \u200cexit directly to the astronomical defamation settlement, \u2062Mediaite reported.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHe screwed up and \u200dmishandled all the legal and\u200d passed [Dominion] \u200b $787 million when they \u200dshould\u2019ve settled this right away,\u201d a \u201csource close to the Murdoch Camp\u201d said. \u201cHe hung in there for a while only because he\u2019s Lachlan\u2019s son\u2019s godfather.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Another source told the outlet, \u201cHe cost \u2064the \u200bcompany $800 million in \u200cthe lawsuit with another pending. \u200dIt\u2019s \u2062a no brainer: you don\u2019t settle for $800 mill and jeopardize the \u2063prized \u200dasset of Fox News \u200bwithout a \u2063head rolling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dinh\u2019s exit from the\u200c company will bring him $23 million as part of his separation agreement, the Journal reported.
