Now She\u2019s Holding a Seminar on Identifying Hate Crimes.\">identify hate crimes<\/a> and report \u200dthem to the feds for the all-important hate crime statistics you\u200b often\u200b see in the media.\u2064 They were everywhere during the Trump \u200dpresidency. You still see these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-case-that-proves-why-hate-crime-statistics-are-bogus\/\" title=\"Hate crime statistics exposed as unreliable.\">hate crime figures cited today<\/a>, in fact. These are the statistics that supposedly prove white supremacy \u200dis the greatest threat this country has ever faced.<\/p>\n<p>Given all the \u2064reliance on these numbers, it\u2019s strange that no one ever talks about the DOJ\u200d manual. You\u2019d think there\u2019d be some curiosity \u200dabout how these numbers are\u2064 determined. So I decided to read the document myself. One\u200c of\u2064 the most extensive sections of the manual, as it\u2064 turns out, is\u2064 the \u201cexercises\u201d section. These are\u200c hypothetical scenarios that the DOJ \u200bprovides to police departments to help illustrate hate crimes law. One \u200cof the exercises is about two gang members who \u2064assault a random Hindu person \u2062with a baseball \u200dbat. The exercise states that, \u201cWhen taken into custody, \u2062the\u2063 two juveniles reported they \u2062committed\u200c the \u2063assault because they\u2062 want the Hindu people to go back \u2064where\u200b they came from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As you can probably guess, the DOJ\u2019s manual \u2062instructs officers to categorize this incident as a hate crime because \u2062of \u201cthe offenders\u2019 derogatory \u2063comments about the Hindu community.\u201d Seems straightforward enough. If you beat someone \u2064up while yelling, \u201cgo back where you\u2064 came from,\u201d then you\u2019re committing\u2063 a hate crime.\u200d If \u201chate crime\u201d means anything, then that would \u2064seem to qualify.<\/p>\n<h3>A \u2062Real-Life Example<\/h3>\n<p>What\u2019s interesting is that a real-life version of this\u200d exercise just played out\u200d earlier this month in New York City. 51-year-old Asian American Sue Young was traveling on a subway train in Greenwich Village \u2014 supposedly one\u2063 of the nice areas of the\u2064 city \u2014 with\u2062 her husband and her 11-year-old twin\u2063 girls. That\u2019s when \u2062three \u200cblack teenage \u2062girls started screaming and cursing \u2063at Sue Young. She tried to play it off. Her \u2063husband suggested\u2063 the girls\u2064 might\u200c be \u200d\u201cuneducated.\u201d\u200b A rather plausible theory, I would say. Then the teenagers told Sue Young to go back where she came \u2063from. Within seconds, one of the teenagers, \u200da 16-year-old girl, \u200cbegan \u2063attacking\u2064 Young. Then, \u200cfor good measure, the teenager beat a bystander who recorded the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Given all those facts, \u2064you\u2019d think it\u2019s safe to call this incident a hate\u2063 crime,\u2064 since \u2063it pretty much mirrors\u200c exactly the\u2064 scenario in\u200b the DOJ\u2019s hate-crimes \u2063manual. \u201cGo back where you \u200bcame from\u201d is an admission\u200c that the attack relates to the victims\u2019\u2063 national origin, race, or religion. It\u2019s pretty straightforward to any reasonable person. But it\u2019s not straightforward to New York police, \u200dapparently. They have decided \u2064not to charge the\u2062 teenager in \u2062this case with a hate\u2062 crime. They found her. They arrested her. They \u200cknow she told her victim to \u2064go \u2063back to her country. But there won\u2019t be any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mother-of-ahmaud-arbery-files-civil-lawsuit-on-anniversary-of-sons-killing\/\" title=\"Mother Of Ahmaud Arbery Files Civil Lawsuit On Anniversary Of Son\u2019s Killing\">hate crimes charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not because the evidence is unclear. There\u2019s no dispute about any of \u200bthese facts. It\u2019s all been established. Watch:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cGo\u2062 back \u200cwhere you came from,\u201d followed by a beating. Under the DOJ\u2019s \u2064guidelines, that\u2019s a hate \u2062crime. It\u2019s literally one of the \u2063exact \u200dscenarios they specify as a hate \u2063crime. But it\u200d won\u2019t be recorded \u200cas one.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If you\u2019re the kind of person who\u2062 trusts government\u200b statistics on crime \u2014 or on any\u200c topic at\u2064 all \u2014 then \u2063this development is mind-blowing, to put\u2064 it mildly. It\u2019s \u200bthe \u2062kind of thing that might make you \u200cask some unapproved questions. For example, you might wonder: Is it really true, as multiple outlets have reported, that the \u201canti-Asian hate-crime epidemic\u201d \u200bis caused by \u200call those MAGA Republicans \u200dthat secretly live in New York and San Francisco? Are MAGA Republicans not only controlling \u200cthe weather \u2064and melting the ice caps, but \u200balso patrolling the streets looking for Asians to randomly assault?\u2063 Can we trust that data?<\/p>\n<h3>The Misleading Nature of Hate \u200bCrime Statistics<\/h3>\n<p>Here are the real numbers.\u200d As The City Journal recently\u200b reported, \u201cWhile black perpetrators account for 27.5 \u2064percent of violent attacks against Asians, Asians commit less than 0.1 percent\u2063 of violent attacks \u2064against blacks,\u200b indicating little role\u2064 for proximity. Most violent attacks against individuals of a particular \u200bracial group are\u200c committed by other members of that group \u2014 except for Asians, where a plurality is committed by blacks. In\u2063 fact, blacks\u2062 are responsible \u2064for 305 percent more violent\u2062 crime against Asians than neighborhood demographics would predict, while whites and Hispanics \u2062commit significantly fewer attacks \u2062against Asians than \u200dwould be expected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What this suggests\u200c is that \u200chate-crime statistics are meaningless. \u2062Totally bogus. They misrepresent and vastly underreport the\u2063 amount of anti-Asian racial violence\u2064 committed by black people, particularly\u200d young black people. What happened in Sue Young\u2019s\u200d case isn\u2019t as unusual\u200b as it might appear.<\/p>\n<p>To be clear, there are many other reasons to \u2062conclude these hate-crime statistics aren\u2019t reliable. The\u200c overwhelming majority\u200b of police departments report\u200d zero hate crimes every year,\u2062 for example. You \u2064heard that \u200bright\u200c \u2014 zero hate crimes. In \u20632019, fewer than 15% of\u2063 the nearly 16,000 jurisdictions reported a single hate crime to the DOJ, even though they\u2062 participated in the DOJ\u2019s\u2062 reporting system. This is a tiny sample\u200c size we\u2019re\u2063 talking\u200c about here.<\/p>\n<p>And \u2063these police departments \u2014 the few that are reporting\u2064 hate crimes \u2014 are not verifying, as a legal \u200dmatter, \u2062that any \u2064hate crime occurred. The hate-crime statistics don\u2019t refer to hate crimes\u200d that have been proven. They refer to\u200d reports of\u200b hate crimes, as\u2064 the DOJ manual says. All it \u200btakes is a \u2063cop\u2062 to\u200c code\u200c a case as \u201chateful,\u201d \u200cand boom, you have a \u200dhate crime.\u200b No jury\u2063 or judge is required.<\/p>\n<p>These are the gaping holes in the hate crimes reporting system that\u2064 you never hear about. So you have to ask: Why\u200d do we have this hate-crimes system, if it\u2019s not producing anything remotely resembling accurate results? \u200cAnd\u200c for that matter, even if we could measure this\u2064 accurately, \u200cwhy does anyone bother recording hate crimes?\u2063 Why \u2062not record crimes that are motivated by, say, \u2063greed\u2064 or lust? Why does the \u201chate crimes\u201d designation persist? As I\u2019ve often argued, the most dangerous people in society are those motivated not by\u200d hate but by indifference to human life. Why don\u2019t we have a separate federal category for Indifferent Crimes? Why give hate crimes this special place of honor, especially when they aren\u2019t being recorded in any kind of\u200b honest or consistent way?<\/p>\n<h3>The Real Reason\u200d Hate \u2064Crimes Persist<\/h3>\n<p>Well, Sue Young and her husband offer us some clues on that front. They\u2019ve come out \u2064and given interviews absolving their attacker of personal\u200b responsibility. Watch:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know what battles other people \u2063have in\u200c their lives, but I can imagine they\u2019re probably not as privileged,\u201d Sue Young\u2019s husband said. He\u2019s\u200d apparently justifying why he allowed his wife to be accosted \u2064right in front of him. He\u200d adds, \u201cThat probably has a lot to do with their outlook \u2063on the world and the\u200d anger they \u2064may have.\u201d Therefore, the couple \u2062agrees, what happened\u200b to them was not a hate crime. They\u2019re happy they\u2063 took their\u2063 beating instead of fighting\u200d back.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What that couple\u200d is\u200c saying out loud,\u200b without realizing it, is\u2063 the real reason hate crimes persist as a \u2062category. The point of hate crimes \u2064isn\u2019t really to measure hate. The point is \u200dto measure victimhood, where the victims\u2063 happen to\u2063 be \u200dthe primary voting blocs of the Democratic Party. If you have \u201cprivilege\u201d \u2014 meaning if \u2062you\u2019re Asian or white \u2014 then\u2064 hate crimes can\u2019t\u200c happen to you.\u200d If you\u2019re attacked because of \u2063your ethnicity,\u2064 you should rationalize it.\u2064 Justify the actions\u2064 of your attackers.<\/p>\n<p>One of\u2064 the many\u2062 problems with this reasoning\u200b \u2014 other \u2064than the fact that\u200d \u201clack of privilege\u201d cannot \u200bconceivably justify beating up a woman in front \u200bof her kids \u2014\u2064 is \u200dthat\u2063 plenty\u2064 of poor people\u200b don\u2019t commit violent crimes. We can measure this.\u200d The assumption that Sue Young and \u2063her husband\u2064 have \u2014 that their attacker must have \u200ba really hard life \u2014 isn\u2019t \u2062an explanation at all for what happened. The Twitter account \u201cMonitoring Bias\u201d has\u200b looked into the \u2063numbers on this. The\u2062 account found that, \u201cIn NYC, where the \u200dpercentage of Asians \u2062who live \u2062in poverty is close \u200cto that of blacks,\u2062 the black arrest rate \u2064for murder was \u206213 times higher\u2064 than \u2063for Asians in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, black people aren\u2019t \u2063simply committing acts of violence because many of \u2064them are poor. The\u200c black \u2062violent crime rate is still disproportionately high even when you control for income level and economic class. The point is that\u2063 these punks on the \u2062subway aren\u2019t \u200creally \u201cangry\u201d or going through any great personal\u2062 struggle. \u200cThey\u2064 are bored and\u200b spoiled, and they\u2019ve been empowered to act however they want, with\u2064 the knowledge\u2063 that their behavior will always be excused no \u200dmatter how heinous it\u2062 is. They have no fear of any punishment. In that way, they\u2019re like \u2062the \u2063rich Antifa kids who spit on cops \u2064or the lawyers who threw\u200d firebombs \u2062at a police cruiser\u2064 during a \u200cBLM riot. They\u2019re like the thugs who \u2063you see going into \u200dNordstrom or the Apple store and walking out with all \u200bthe merchandise. They know they\u2019re\u200d not\u200d going to suffer immediate, severe, and long-lasting punishment. They know they might not\u2064 suffer any punishment at\u2064 all. They know\u200b their victims are weak\u200d and \u2062often lack the\u200d will to defend themselves. So they take advantage of it.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s\u200d the \u2062reality. Some people won\u2019t acknowledge \u2062it even\u2062 when it hits them \u200bin the \u2063face, many \u2064times over, on the subway. They\u2019ve been fed so many lies, including from the\u200b DOJ\u2019s hate crimes reporting system, that they\u2019re incapable of diagnosing the problem, much less trying to solve \u2062it. Their weakness \u2064will perpetuate violence on all sides. \u2063People can\u2064 only take so many\u200c subway beatings \u200band \u201crandom\u201d stabbings before they start defending themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c Youngs were\u200b proud\u2062 of themselves for not \u201cattacking\u201d the\u200c black \u200bteens who were harassing them. But people are growing weary of this kind of passivity \u2014 of this \u200bsubmissiveness in the face of lawless, violent thugs. The dam can\u2019t \u2064hold forever. There \u200bwill be a lot more Daniel \u200bPennys coming soon. \u2062And when\u2064 that happens,\u200d the\u200d DOJ will call it hateful. They\u2019ll call it a sign of rampant white supremacy.
