The United\u2062 States seized the tanker in a sanctions enforcement operation.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b delay in discharging the cargo is\u2063 also partly out \u200bof fear of repercussions from Iran. A \u200csenior commander of\u200c Iran&#8217;s Revolutionary Guards&#8217; navy said last month Iran would retaliate against any oil company unloading Iranian oil from a seized tanker.<\/p>\n<p>Senators Joni Ernst, a Republican, and Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat, and other lawmakers in the Senate and U.S. House said \u2064in the letter to Biden and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-big-here-we-go-pentagon-halts-biden-transition-defense-briefings-biden-team-unaware-of-directive\/\" title=\"BREAKING BIG: Here We Go \u2014 Pentagon Halts Biden Transition Defense Briefings \u2014 Biden Team Unaware of Directive\">senior administration officials<\/a> that enforcement of petroleum sanctions will become irrelevant if American citizens and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-urge-biden-to-end-delay-in-offloading-seized-iranian-oil\/\" title=\"Lawmakers press Biden to promptly unload seized Iranian oil.\">companies involved\u200c constantly live<\/a> in fear of Iranian retaliation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is imperative that the Administration make clear that Iran and designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations cannot prevent our government from carrying out legitimate law enforcement operations,&#8221; the lawmakers said in the letter sent\u200b late on Tuesday \u200dand seen \u200dby Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2063 asked the administration for a briefing on the progress\u2062 of \u200cthe transfer of the seized oil from the\u200b <em>Suez Rajan<\/em> to U.S. custody.<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d saga of the tanker is occurring as Washington and Tehran \u2063seek a deal to \u200bfree\u200d five detained \u2063U.S. citizens in exchange \u2062for releasing $6 billion in Iranian funds \u2064frozen in South Korea. A deal would remove \u200da major irritant between Washington and Tehran, \u2062which are at odds on issues from the\u200c Iranian nuclear program to Tehran&#8217;s support for regional Shi&#8217;ite militias.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers estimated the value of the\u2062 oil on the 800,000 barrel tanker to be\u200b $56 million.
