It is \u2062moving west-northwest at 13 mph, according to the NHC.<\/p>\n<p>A forecast model <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/refresh\/graphics_ep4+shtml\/121741.shtml?cone#contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicates<\/a> that the storm may still be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tropical-storm-claudette-floods-parts-of-gulf-coast\/\" title=\"Tropical storm Claudette floods parts of Gulf Coast\">tropical storm<\/a> when it reaches Southern\u2064 California early Monday\u200d morning. It is then expected to weaken further into \u2064a tropical depression between\u2063 12 a.m. Monday and 12 a.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Parts of the Inland Empire metropolitan area could experience up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/refresh\/graphics_ep4+shtml\/121741.shtml?rainqpf#contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6 inches of\u200c rain<\/a>, while Southern California, including San\u200b Diego and Los Angeles,\u2062 could receive 1 to 4 inches. The Sierra Nevada mountains and\u200d areas near \u200bLas Vegas, Nevada, may also see up to 6 inches of rain, as\u2064 reported by the National\u2062 Weather Service.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Hilary has\u200c the potential \u2064to bring significant \u200cimpacts to the Baja California Peninsula and portions of the southwestern United States this\u200c weekend and \u200dearly next week, including after it becomes \u2062post-tropical,&#8221; the NHC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/text\/refresh\/MIATCDEP4+shtml\/170857.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a forecast discussion. &#8220;Although it\u200d is too soon to determine the \u2063location and magnitude \u200cof wind impacts, interests \u200din these areas should monitor the progress of Hilary and updates to the forecast. A Tropical Storm Watch is now in\u2063 effect for southern portions of Baja California Sur, and \u200dadditional watches or warnings will likely be required later\u200b today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The NHC also warned \u200bof potential flash flooding and landslides on the Baja California \u200bpeninsula from Friday to Sunday. It added that\u2062 rainfall impacts from Hilary within the Southwestern United States are expected to\u200d peak on Sunday\u2063 and \u2062Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Swain, a scientist at the University of \u200bCalifornia at Los Angeles, stated that Southern\u2064 California could experience &#8220;multiple \u2063years&#8217; worth of precipitation.&#8221; The National \u200bWeather Service&#8217;s San\u2062 Diego office echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for preparedness and acknowledging the forecast&#8217;s \u200cuncertainty regarding timing, location, and magnitude of impacts.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Above-Normal&#8217; \u200bSeason<\/h2>\n<p>Despite\u200b the current lull in the Atlantic hurricane season, the \u200bNational Oceanic and \u2064Atmospheric Administration&#8217;s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/news-release\/noaa-forecasters-increase-atlantic-hurricane-season-prediction-to-above-normal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised<\/a> its 2023 prediction from near-normal to &#8220;above-normal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Considering those factors, the updated outlook calls for more activity, so we urge everyone to prepare\u2063 now for the continuing season,&#8221; said Matthew Rosencrans, lead hurricane season forecaster at NOAA.<\/p>\n<p>According to the \u200bNHC&#8217;s hurricane map,\u2062 there are currently no tropical storms, depressions, or \u2062hurricanes in the Atlantic basin.
