The factory will eventually produce 45,000 tonnes \u2062of cathode active materials (CAM) per year for Ford EVs. <\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s federal government will provide the consortium\u200d with \u200da conditional \u200bloan of C$322 million and Quebec will offer the same amount as a partially forgivable loan, the statement said.\u200b Construction is expected to start in the first half of 2026 and the plant will create more than 345 jobs. \u200d    <\/p>\n<p>This is the latest in a series of construction announcements for Becancour, a town of fewer than 15,000 people\u2064 on the St. Lawrence River, which is \u200dshaping up to be an EV-supply-chain hub in North America.<\/p>\n<p>Canada, home\u2064 to a large mining sector for minerals including lithium, nickel and cobalt, is trying to woo companies involved in all\u2062 levels of the EV supply chain \u200bvia a multibillion-dollar green technology fund as the world seeks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-fisker-automotives-lost-taxpayers-tens-of-millions-top-investors-turn-to-proterra\/\" title=\"After Fisker Automotives Lost Taxpayers Tens of Millions, Top Investors Turn to Proterra\">cut carbon emissions<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a big vote of \u2064confidence in\u2064 the (EV) ecosystem we\u2019ve been building,\u201d <strong>Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne<\/strong> told Reuters. \u201cThis is very significant for Quebec, because as you know the auto sector has been primarily investing in Ontario, but now we have GM,\u2064 now we have Ford in Becancour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In May, General Motors Co and South Korea\u2019s POSCO Future\u2062 M said they would increase production capacity \u2063at a chemical battery materials facility \u200bwhose construction was first announced last year.
