Kacsmaryk \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/11\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-case-freezing-the-fdas-abortion-pill-approval\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stayed<\/a>,\u201d or suspended, the FDA\u2019s 2000 expedited approval of the two-drug abortion pill regimen, \u2062mifepristone\u2063 and misoprostol, and\u200d the FDA\u2019s further loosening\u2063 of restrictions in 2016, \u20622019, \u2064and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision reinstated the abortion pills\u2019 2000 FDA approval but also important\u200b limits\u200d that had been in place before 2016, like\u2064 the rule \u200cdictating\u2062 pills cannot be prescribed via telemedicine\u2064 and dispensed \u2062to patients\u200b through the \u2064mail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2016,\u2062 the\u2062 FDA expanded \u2062when girls and women could take the pill, changed\u200c its dosing, reduced the required number of doctor visits to obtain the drug, allowed more people than licensed doctors to prescribe the pill, \u200cand eradicated reporting standards\u2062 for non-fatal\u200d complications\u2062 from the pills,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/07\/federal-judge-says-fda-wrongfully-approved-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> The Federalist\u2019s Jordan Davidson.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lailluminator.com\/2023\/08\/16\/abortion-pill-to-stay-on-the-market-until-u-s-supreme-court-ruling-after-appeals-court-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> \u200bto the court, the\u2063 FDA\u2019s relaxing of restrictions\u2062 on \u200bmifepristone \u201cfailed to address several important concerns about whether the drug would be safe \u200cfor the women\u200c who use it,\u201d \u200d\u201cfailed to consider the cumulative effect of \u200bremoving several important safeguards at the same time,\u201d\u200c and \u201cfailed to gather evidence \u2064that affirmatively showed that mifepristone could be used safely \u200bwithout being prescribed and dispensed in\u2064 person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court\u2019s decision, which is expected to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/08\/16\/politics\/abortion-pill-mifepristone-5th-circuit\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appealed<\/a>, is now in <a href=\"https:\/\/lailluminator.com\/2023\/08\/16\/abortion-pill-to-stay-on-the-market-until-u-s-supreme-court-ruling-after-appeals-court-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">limbo<\/a> \u200d until the Supreme Court decides whether \u2063to take up the\u2062 case. \u2063If the high court upholds the Fifth Circuit Court\u2019s ruling, the abortion \u2064pill will be subject to \u2063the FDA\u2019s 2000 regulations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/255106\/breaking-5th-circuit-court-approves-abortion-pill-restrictions-ends-mail-order-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Erin Hawley<\/a>, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing \u200bthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/seattle-suburb-backs-down-from-ban-on-abortion-clinic-protesters\/\" title=\"Seattle Suburb Backs Down From Ban on Abortion Clinic Protesters\">pro-life side<\/a> of the case, said this means that \u200din addition to requiring three in-person doctor visits for\u2063 the\u200c pills to be administered,\u200c chemical abortions will only be allowed up to seven \u2063weeks \u2064gestation, not 10 as it is\u2064 now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant victory \u200cfor the \u2063doctors and medical associations\u2063 we represent and, more importantly,\u200d the health and safety of women,\u201d Hawley\u2062 said.<\/p>\n<p>As Boyd <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/07\/federal-judge-says-fda-wrongfully-approved-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, a long-term study found that mifepristone is responsible for \u2064a <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/23333928211053965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">500 percent increase<\/a> \u200cin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/women-misrepresenting-chemical-abortions-as-miscarriages-at-increased-risk-of-multiple-hospitalizations-study-finds\/\" title=\"Women Misrepresenting Chemical Abortions As Miscarriages At Increased Risk Of Multiple Hospitalizations, Study Finds\">abortion-related emergency room visits<\/a>, and \u201cchemical abortion is consistently and\u2064 progressively associated with more postabortion\u200c ER\u2062 visit morbidity than\u200b surgical abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/3-16-23-National-Survey-FDA.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Polling<\/a> \u200c shows\u2064 the majority of Americans do not believe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/as-thousands-march-for-life-democrats-are-out-of-step-with-majority\/\" title=\"As Thousands March For Life, Democrats Are Out Of Step With Majority\">mail-order abortion drugs<\/a> are safe, despite the FDA\u2019s insistence to \u2062the contrary. Moreover, 75 percent of Americans believe the FDA should have performed studies focused on girls\u200d under \u2063age 18 before approving the\u200d abortion pill for minors.<\/p>\n<p>While\u2063 the physical\u200d risks of chemical abortions \u2064are undeniably <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30253769\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">great<\/a>, the \u200bemotional costs, which have \u200cgone largely \u2064unstudied and disregarded,\u200c can be just as harmful. \u200bA pro-abortion TikToker\u2064 named <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/30\/watch-radical-pro-abortion-tiktoker-unknowingly-makes-incredible-case-for-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris Glass uploaded<\/a> a now-viral\u2064 series of videos discussing the emotional and physical trauma she experienced after chemically aborting her \u2062unborn baby. In\u200c the videos, Glass \u200bdescribes in explicit\u200d detail the\u2063 excruciating pain and trauma she endured during her abortion\u2064 alone\u200c in the\u2062 bathroom for \u200dhours.
