Approximately\u200c 1,560,000 units manufactured between January 2011 and \u2062February 2014\u200b are \u200bimpacted by \u2064the \u2064recall,\u200d according to the CPSC.<\/p>\n<p>The CPSC reported 688 overheating \u200bincidents and $168,000 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-regulators-order-recall-of-over-1-5-million-dehumidifiers-for-fire-risk\/\" title=\"US regulators recall 1.5 million dehumidifiers due to fire risk.\">property damage related<\/a> to the dehumidifiers.<\/p>\n<p>The affected dehumidifiers were sold nationwide at Home Depot, Lowe&#8217;s, Menards, \u200cSam&#8217;s Club, Sears, and \u2062Walmart from 2011 to 2014, with prices ranging \u2063from\u200c $110 to\u2062 $400.<\/p>\n<h2>Chinese Manufacturer Failed to Notify Feds<\/h2>\n<p>The CPSC warned that the products could\u200d overheat, smoke,\u200d or catch fire and \u2063listed the recalled model numbers, \u200bwhich \u2064were printed on the back, front, or side \u200cof the units.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The dehumidifiers are white,\u2063 beige, gray, or black plastic and \u2062measure between 19\u201324 \u2062inches tall, \u206213\u201315 inches\u2063 wide, and 9\u201311 inches deep,&#8221; the CPSC \u2063said.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers were \u200badvised to\u2062 immediately stop\u2062 using the\u200b dehumidifiers and contact\u2063 Gree to receive a refund. They were also instructed to \u2062wait six to eight weeks to receive information on \u2063how to register for the recall.<\/p>\n<p>On April 24, Gree was ordered by the U.S. Justice Department \u2063to pay\u200b a $500,000 \u200dcriminal fine after pleading guilty to failing to notify\u2062 the\u200c CPSC\u200d about the millions of defective dehumidifiers \u200cit sold to American \u2064consumers. This marked the first time the CPSC pursued a criminal action against a company.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the \u2062resolution, a total fine of $91 million was imposed on three Gree affiliates, and restitution payments were made to victims. The three affiliates, Gree Zhuhai, Gree Hong Kong, and \u2064Gree USA, were allegedly aware that \u2064their dehumidifiers were faulty and did not meet\u2062 safety standards. According to court documents, the manufacturers \u2063did not inform the CPSC about the products&#8217; \u200bflammability for several months.<\/p>\n<h2>Humidifiers in Earlier Recall Responsible for Four Deaths<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, another warning urged consumers to check immediately if their dehumidifier was part of the earlier Gree recall.\u2063 These\u200d dehumidifiers were sold under brand names such as Danby, De\u2019Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, GE,\u200c Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir, and SuperClima.<\/p>\n<p>The dehumidifiers were\u2064 initially \u2063recalled in September 2013, expanded in January\u200b 2014, re-announced in \u2064May 2014, and again\u200b in November 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The CPS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 1.5 million dehumidifiers are being recalled due to nearly 23 reported fires, as stated by U.S. regulators.
