However, \u200cthey blame \u2062lottery systems used for admission at some nursing schools for delaying \u200dtheir progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey don\u2019t even look \u200bat grades. It\u2019s \u200bjust\u2064 random as to who gets in, and I\u2019ve been denied twice,\u201d said patient care\u2064 coordinator Maria Garcia. \u201cIt\u2019s not fair to those \u200cof us who tried hard and scored high on our \u2063tests. We \u2063deserve a chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, more than\u200b half of the 77 nursing programs surveyed by California\u2063 Community Colleges reported using multi-factor\u200d admissions criteria, including grade point averages, \u2063while\u200c up to 30 utilized \u200bother processes, \u200dsuch as lottery enrollment.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c community college group has consistently highlighted the need for increased funding and support from the state to overcome nursing shortages in their annual\u200c reports to the governor.<\/p>\n<p>Delaying educational progress for prospective\u200c nurses exacerbates the problem, especially considering the \u2064advanced age \u2063and retirement rate of nurses today.<\/p>\n<p>California legislators\u2064 have introduced bills \u200dat the federal level to address the need for more educators and nursing programs nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Adam Schiff\u2019s (D-Calif.) Support Access\u200d to Nursing School Act\u200c aims\u2062 to fund nursing school instructors, while Rep. As a result, hospitals and clinics \u2063are\u2062 in crisis \u2062and rationing care because there are simply not enough \u200cnurses,\u201d said Mr. Costa in a press release announcing the proposal.\u200c \u201cMy legislation \u200dwill \u200chelp develop\u200b a roadmap\u2063 to bolster the\u200c nursing workforce and improve access to\u200c care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disparities in pay between \u2062educators and clinical nurses also contribute to the shortage of educators, exacerbating the nursing problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchools have been unable to meet all the demand because we cannot recruit faculty\u200b to teach the\u200b students\u2014clinical nurses earn significantly more than the teachers who \u200binstruct\u2062 them,\u201d said Gina Intinarelli-Shuler, associate \u2063dean\u200d at the UCSF School of Nursing. \u201cIt\u2019s \u200bchallenging, but our senior nursing leaders\u200d are putting together a comprehensive workforce recruitment, retention, and training plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In many cases, travel nurses are filling \u2064the void, signing contracts of\u200c varying lengths\u2062 with\u200d health care providers. While they \u200brepresented less than 2 \u200cpercent of nurses \u2063in 2019,\u2064 the hiring of travel nurses\u2064 surged in 2020\u200d and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>With the increased demand for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/america-first-vaccines-rolling-out-of-michigan-plant-headed-directly-for-american-hospitals\/\" title=\"America First: Vaccines Rolling Out of Michigan Plant, Headed Directly for American Hospitals\">health care workers<\/a> \u2062and the bottleneck\u200d in educating and licensing \u200cnew\u2063 nurses, proposals in the state Legislature\u2062 aim to minimize the impact of the ongoing shortage.<\/p>\n<p>One such measure, Assembly Bill 698, introduced by Asm.
