Andy Biggs: NDAA veto override a crying shame\">pushing back<\/a>\u200d on 2024 Republican presidential candidates who contend \u2063the country is worse off under \u2064his leadership.<\/p>\n<p>But\u200c the candidates are supported by polling that indicates the public considers the country to be heading in the\u200c wrong direction as Biden underscores the Inflation Reduction Act&#8217;s first anniversary \u2062this week before \u2064next year&#8217;s general election.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Direction of the Country Polling Reflects Concerns<\/h3>\n<p>Direction \u2064of the country polling captures &#8220;many things,&#8221; including how \u200dcongressional Republicans are &#8220;blocking action&#8221; and how courts are &#8220;going against the will of the \u2064people,&#8221;\u2063 according to Democratic pollster Celinda Lake.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The direction of things that affect people&#8217;s lives like consumer confidence and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ex-trump-economist-steve-moore-were-looking-at-4-to-5-percent-inflation-rate\/\" title=\"Ex-Trump Economist Steve Moore: We're Looking at 4 to 5 Percent Inflation Rate\">food prices<\/a> \u200dare moving in \u2063the right direction,&#8221; Lake told the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But that has not prevented Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), among others, from describing the country as being in &#8220;decline,&#8221; the governor promising New England reporters this week he would reverse that trend.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>DeSantis Vows to Reverse Decline<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;As president, I&#8217;ll be the leader, but it&#8217;s not going to be focusing on me,&#8221; DeSantis\u200c said. &#8220;It&#8217;s going\u2064 to be focusing on what \u200bthe American people need so that we could get this country on the right track and we can stop our nation&#8217;s decline. And that&#8217;s what I&#8217;m committed to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg similarly downplayed direction of the country polling, asking DeSantis \u2064rhetorically, &#8220;In decline relative to what?&#8221; as he dismissed the\u2062 governor&#8217;s &#8220;Great American Comeback&#8221; economic policy.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Rosenberg Challenges DeSantis&#8217; Claims<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;The &#8216;Great American Comeback&#8217; happened \u200bunder Biden,&#8221; Rosenberg said. &#8220;Our recovery today is the best of any G-7 \u2063nation; inflation \u2063is much lower\u2063 here than it is in Europe. &#8230; So I \u2063think the arguments about decline, about America being in\u200c bad shape, are off tenor.\u2064 They&#8217;re off key.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rosenberg also cited\u2063 July&#8217;s jobs data, which reported 187,000 net new positions, 3.5% unemployment, and 4.4% average wage growth. With 3% inflation and 3% third<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-hits-back-at-critics-who-say-us-in-decline\/\" title=\"Biden counters critics claiming US decline.\">-quarter gross domestic product\u200b growth projections<\/a>,\u2062 a soft landing appears possible,\u2064 easing pressure on the Federal Reserve to\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/morgan-stanley-threat-of-high-inflation-is-real\/\" title=\"Morgan Stanley: Threat of high inflation is real\">raise interest rates<\/a>, per the Hopium Chronicles \u2064author.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, direction \u200dof the country polling under Biden is net negative 41 percentage points, averaging 24% right\u2062 direction to 65% \u200bwrong track, according to RealClearPolitics. The president additionally has an average 41%\u2063 job approval-54% disapproval\u2063 rating, as well as 40% favorability and 54% unfavorability.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Biden&#8217;s Case for Reelection<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Joe Biden has 15 months to make his case, and he&#8217;s got a very powerful case,&#8221; Rosenberg said. &#8220;His \u200ccase for reelection got much stronger this summer, and the Republican Party&#8217;s case \u200bto win the presidency \u2063got much weaker.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think people really understand that we haven&#8217;t, we don&#8217;t have any campaign happening right now, and they do,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Once the Biden campaign really\u200b turns on in the fall, he&#8217;ll start waking up Democratic voters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden \u2064responded to that decline criticism during remarks this week at electric engineering firm Ingeteam Inc. in Milwaukee, which aimed to amplify how it had been one year Wednesday since the president signed the Inflation Reduction Act.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Biden Defends America&#8217;s Progress<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;All I\u200b hear from\u2062 my friends on the \u200dother side of the aisle is what is wrong with\u200d America,&#8221; the president said Tuesday. &#8220;There\u2019s a lot wrong with America, like every country. They \u2063tell \u2062us America \u200bis failing, but they\u2019re wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Democrats, Republicans, independents, conservatives, liberals, I don\u2019t think they understand the\u2063 average American,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Whatever we\u200c set our mind to as a country, we\u2019ve always accomplished. &#8230; There\u2019s nothing beyond our capacity.\u200b America isn\u2019t\u200b failing. America is winning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden commemorated the\u200b Inflation Reduction Act with a \u2064White House ceremony Wednesday promoting his so-called Bidenomics economic plan and Investing in America agenda despite scrutiny from climate \u2064change activists who are dissatisfied with its environmental provisions after, for example, the deadly Hawaiian wildfires.
