It is\u200c an amazing place, but it is definitely time for some upgrades,\u201d Lake Forest resident\u200c Cindy \u2063Melton wrote in an\u200c Aug.\u200d 4 email.<\/p>\n<p>Another \u2062volunteer and Irvine resident applauded the plans for added classrooms, which he said will help staff and volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe renovation of the kennels is badly needed, as is the addition of a \u2064proper indoor classroom space,\u2063 out of the weather and away from the street \u2063noise, where staff and volunteers can come together \u2063for training, events, and to provide community education,\u201d 43-year resident of Irvine, Dan Ferrari, wrote in an Aug. \u20646 email to the city.<\/p>\n<p>The existing dog park on the shelter\u2019s grounds will also be\u200c relocated to the Oak Creek Community Park, to make room for a larger\u2064 parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of the funds comes\u200d after earlier discussions \u200cfor such renovations\u200b in 2019\u2014that never \u2062came\u200d to fruition\u2014which at that time were estimated\u200b at $14 million.<\/p>\n<p>The renovations should\u200d begin this fall, according to city\u2062 staff, and be completed by 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Irvine City Council unanimously allocated $25 million on Aug. 8 for renovating the Irvine Animal Care Shelter.
