State Farm\u2014the largest insurer operating in California\u2014announced it will no longer be\u2063 accepting\u2064 new policies but will retain some of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newsmax-returns-to-directv-after-months-long-dispute\/\" title=\"Newsmax Returns To DirecTV After Months-Long Dispute\">current clients<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers and Allstate also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bostons-democrat-mayor-michelle-wu-claims-children-want-extended-masking-in-school\/\" title=\"Boston's Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu Claims Children Want Extended Masking in School\">made similar announcements<\/a> this\u200b summer, along with a number of smaller\u200d companies, leaving\u2063 thousands of\u200b homeowners left with only\u200c the FAIR Plan\u2014a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/2-more-insurers-fleeing-california-more-than-50000-homeowners-to-lose-coverage\/\" title=\"2 Insurers Leaving California, 50,000 Homeowners Losing Coverage\">state-mandated insurance option<\/a> of last\u200d resort in which insurers are required to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Some homeowners that\u200d were forced into the plan\u2062 say the\u200b insurance is significantly more expensive and provides less coverage.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Regulations and Rising Costs \u200cDrive Insurers Away<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Approximately 1.3 \u2062million homes are\u2062 at risk of wildfire damage in California, with a cost \u200cof $760 billion to \u2063rebuild, according to a\u200b recent study released by Irvine-based data analytics\u200d firm CoreLogic.<\/p>\n<p>Wildfires, earthquakes, and flooding are the primary concerns for homeowner insurance providers, \u200dbut experts suggest they are leaving \u200cthe state due \u200bto regulations that restrict rate increases.<\/p>\n<p>Industry representatives said\u2064 Proposition 103\u2014which restricts how \u200bmuch homeowner insurance \u200bpolicies can \u2062cost\u2014is, in part, to blame. The proposition was passed in \u200c1988 \u2064by voters in\u2063 response to high automobile insurance \u200ccosts.<\/p>\n<p>Insurers\u2062 report needing\u200c to raise premiums to remain profitable, yet regulations slowing and preventing such are leading them to\u200b reduce their \u2064exposure to risk in California,\u200b according to experts.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>California\u2063 Department of Insurance\u2062 Seeks \u200bSolutions<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Current rules mandate that companies\u200c price premiums on past \u2062losses, but \u2062experts say this is significantly impacting profitability\u2014as inflation has driven up the price\u2062 of materials, labor, \u200cand reconstruction costs.<\/p>\n<p>A request for comment from the\u2062 California Department \u200bof \u200dInsurance was not returned on\u200c deadline.<\/p>\n<p>But the department is \u2063aware of the problem and is seeking ways to\u200b address the issue, according to statements released earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistoric losses do not\u2062 fully account for growing wildfire\u2064 risks, or risk mitigation \u2062measures taken \u200dby \u2064communities,\u201d Michael Peterson, a \u2062deputy commissioner\u2063 at the California Department of Insurance, said during a hearing in May.<\/p>\n<p>Claims have mounted in recent years,\u200b with 2022 \u200dstatistics from the\u2062 department\u2019s market share report (pdf) revealing \u2064billions of\u200d dollars in losses for insurance companies.<\/p>\n<p>The assets covered by homeowners\u2019 insurance expose insurers to trillions of dollars in fire and earthquake \u2064risk, according to statistics from the agency.<\/p>\n<p>Such could\u200d be\u200d influencing insurers to \u2062take their business elsewhere, according to\u2062 experts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With wildfire season intensifying, California residents are increasingly anxious.
