It\u2019s certainly something to\u2063 watch but not to be \u200dalarmed by at this time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u2064Edward A. Miller,\u2062 Chairman of the Department of Gerontology\u200c at\u2062 The University of Massachusetts Boston, told Yahoo Finance that health and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-nursing-home-costs-increased-by-the-largest-amount-since-1997\/\" title=\"US nursing home costs saw their biggest increase since 1997.\">medical expenses\u200d typically rise faster compared<\/a> to\u2064 other sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>He said \u200bthat the\u2064 rise in assisted living \u200bcosts &#8220;could very \u2064well be illustrative of that tendency&#8221; and that &#8220;the rise in prices could reflect, in part, a rebound in demand as occupancy rates rise once again [after the pandemic].<\/p>\n<p>Mr. \u2063Miller said that demand will likely grow even further due to the aging of the &#8220;large baby boom cohort,&#8221; which will mean that \u2064price\u200c gains will \u200daccelerate going forward.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, more than 40 percent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/millions-of-americans-give-up-hope-theyll-ever-be-able-to-retire-poll-finds\/\" title=\"Poll finds millions of Americans lose hope for retirement.\">baby\u2062 boomers<\/a> do not have enough retirement \u2064savings to cover\u200d the cost of\u2063 living, according to 2020 Census data.<\/p>\n<p>Many depend solely on Social Security, \u200das Medicare does\u2062 not cover nursing home \u200dor assisted living facility stays.<\/p>\n<h2>Staff Shortages Plague Industry as Costs Rise<\/h2>\n<p>According to the American Health Care Association (AHCA), about 800,000 \u200cAmericans live in an assisted \u2064living facility \u2062in approximately 30,600 communities today, with a total of 1.2 million \u2063licensed beds.<\/p>\n<p>The average \u200csize of an assisted living\u2062 community\u200b is 39 licensed beds and\u200d many of \u2062them already suffer from chronic staffing issues.<\/p>\n<p>KFF reported 1.157,714 millio<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>nursing home and adult day service costs surged by 2.4% in July, marking the highest rate in 25 years.
