Months<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cGo woke, go broke\u201d\u2064 is the saying.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s being borne out for some corporations like Target.<\/p>\n<p>The retail giant \u200dput more than its toe into the swirling waters of \u201cpride\u201d month this year \u2014 it\u2062 immersed much\u2063 of its entire corporate image.<\/p>\n<p>And like Anheuser-Busch\u200b with its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bud-lights-dylan-mulvaney-fiasco-disaster-going-taught-college-business-classes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bud Light fiasco<\/a>, Target ran into problems.<\/p>\n<p>Selling \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/big-american-retailer-releases-disturbing-new-female-swimsuit-extra-crotch-coverage-tuck-friendly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tuck-friendly<\/a>\u201d swimsuits and pro-LGBT \u2064merchandise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/target-gets-bad-news-coalition-state-ags-pride-campaign-might-broken-child-protection-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aimed \u2062at\u2062 kids<\/a>, Target faced a \u2063boycott by conservatives \u200cand traditionalists.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Target sales took a \u200bbig dip \u2064in June.<\/p>\n<p>In a Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/earnings\/call-transcripts\/2023\/08\/16\/target-tgt-q2-2023-earnings-call-transcript\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conference \u200ccall<\/a> \u200d with investors, Christina Hennington, Target\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jpmorgan-chase-fraud-case-another-indictment-issued\/\" title=\"New indictment issued in JPMorgan Chase fraud case.\">chief \u2063growth officer<\/a>, said the\u2062 company faced \u200b\u201cheadwinds\u201d (MBA-speak for \u201cproblems\u201d), \u201cincluding\u200b the strong reaction to this\u200c year\u2019s \u2018pride\u2019 assortment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael \u2064Fiddelke, the company\u2019s \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tesla-cfo-zachary-kirkhorn-steps-down-successor-known\/\" title=\"Tesla's CFO, Zachary Kirkhorn, resigns; replacement identified.\">chief financial \u200dofficer<\/a>, told investors the boycott\u200d affected\u200d store traffic and \u201ctop-line trends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CEO\u2064 Brian Cornell said \u200bfactors such as inventory control and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/target-suffers-sales-downturn-thanks-to-conservatives-plans-changes-for-future-pride-months\/\" title=\"Target's sales decline due to conservative backlash; And total revenue\u2064 for the\u200c second quarter, which ended June 30, was down by 4.9 percent.<\/p>\n<p>This quarter\u2019s sales are also expected to be down\u200d for Target, along with its \u2063overall profit goal for \u2064the \u2064year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/target-tgt-q2-earnings-report-2023-cc9acf81\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a \u200bcall with reporters, Cornell said, \u201cAs we navigate an ever-changing operating and social environment, we are applying what \u2064we learned,\u201d the Journal\u200c reported.<\/p>\n<p>But Target may not be applying too\u2063 much of what it learned, as Cornell \u200bsaid \u2063in the investors\u2019 call, \u201c\u2018Pride\u2019 is one of many heritage moments that are important to our \u200bguests and our team. And \u2063we\u2019ll continue to support \u2062these moments\u2062 in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are just one part of our commitment to support a diverse\u2063 team, which \u200dhelps us serve a \u2063diverse set of guests. \u2026 Specific to \u2018pride\u2019 and heritage months, we\u2019re focused on building assortments \u2063that are celebratory and joyous with wide-ranging relevance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Journal, executives said they would still promote the LGBT agenda next year, \u201cbut with a more focused assortment\u200b of\u200c merchandise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Is Target\u2064 going to tone it down? If\u200b not, does that mean it is planning\u200c to solidify many of its customers as\u2064 ex-customers?<\/p>\n<p>It will be\u2063 interesting to see.
