Is this our\u2064 community\u2019s expectation?\u201d Allen posted on the\u2064 social media \u200bplatform on January 26.<\/p>\n<p>Allen\u2019s Facebook post\u2063 garnered attention within\u2063 the community,\u200b and people started showing up at school board \u200bmeetings to express their \u201cdismay and disapproval\u201d of \u2062the Goochland County school district \u200ballegedly letting students use the bathroom of\u200d the opposite sex,\u200c according \u2064to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Then at a May school board meeting, the four other board members expressed their \u2063public disapproval of Allen and officially censured her, the first censure in Goochland School Board history, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>The censure resolution accused Allen\u200d of\u200d violating \u200cthe\u200c school board\u2019s ethics code, federal law, and the Constitution with \u200bher Facebook \u2063post, which it\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Nh4FQS57fRI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> \u201cinflammatory\u201d and a \u201cdistorted characterization\u201d of the district\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>Allen is also \u201caccountable for\u200b disrupting the integrity of the \u2063Board, encouraging violation of \u2062the law and blemishing the reputation of the\u200c board,\u201d the censure resolution\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.com\/news\/local\/education\/goochland-school-board-member-sues-colleagues\/article_7ffe21a6-3ae4-11ee-bf8d-673b0b2be45a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit argues the Facebook\u200d post was \u201ccompletely\u2062 neutral.\u201d The censure resolution made \u201cfalse statements\u2064 of fact about the character and reputation\u201d of Allen, the lawsuit \u2064alleges.<\/p>\n<p>The conservative law firm, the Founding Freedoms Law Center, represents Allen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/school-board-member-sues-after-she-was-censured-for-facebook-post-on-transgender-bathroom-policy\/\" title=\"School board member sues over censure for transgender bathroom policy Facebook post.\">defendants made knowingly \u2064false statements<\/a> against \u2062Ms. Allen to disparage her reputation all because she exposed a policy they apparently wanted to remain hidden from their constituents,\u201d Allen\u2019s attorney Josh Hetzler <a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.com\/news\/local\/education\/goochland-school-board-member-sues-colleagues\/article_7ffe21a6-3ae4-11ee-bf8d-673b0b2be45a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the Richmond \u2064Times-Dispatch.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese board members\u2063 must \u2064be held accountable for wrongfully attacking Ms. Allen and for harming her reputation,\u201d Hetzler said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, \u2062this case is primarily about my reputation for integrity and about accountability for school board \u2063members who think that they can unfairly punish a fellow board member simply because I informed the\u2062 citizens of what the schools were actually doing and then asked them what they \u2064thought about it,\u201d Allen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundingfreedomslaw.org\/news\/goochlandcountylawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn other words, they punished me for doing exactly what I was elected to do,\u201d she added.\u2062 \u201cUltimately, if they can \u2062get \u2062away with this \u200dwithout consequences, \u2063then this can happen to \u200bany <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/44-san-francisco-schools-to-see-name-changes\/\" title=\"44 San Francisco schools to see name changes\">school board member<\/a> in any district, so I feel I \u2062have a\u2063 responsibility to\u2064 stand up to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u200blawsuit\u200c is requesting\u200b half a million\u200c dollars in compensatory damages plus $350,000 in punitive damages \u2064from the other\u200c board members.<\/p>\n<h3>School Policies and Parental Concerns<\/h3>\n<p>School policies dealing with transgender bathroom use have become a hot-button issue for\u200b parents\u200b across the country in the last few\u2063 years.
