YTD in 2023, there&#8217;s been 26 pedestrian-related fatalities, 19 due to unsafe crossings. CA&#8217;s\u200c pedestrian fatality rate was 25% above the national average. We&#8217;re \u2063committed \u200dto safer roads through driver-pedestrian collaboration. \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Igc8jPzUYQ\">pic.twitter.com\/Igc8jPzUYQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u200b LAPD HQ \u200b(@LAPDHQ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LAPDHQ\/status\/1688680740513632261?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 7, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Deputy District Attorney\u200b John McKinney, is calling the latest data on fatalities \u201cpredictable outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe new\u2062 law, which legalized jaywalking, was enacted in January of 2023 and \u2063has already led to 19 fatalities \u200cdue to unsafe crossings, out of the \u206226 pedestrian fatalities in Los Angeles through August \u20627<sup>th<\/sup>,\u201d\u00a0 McKinney said. \u201cCalifornia\u2019s pedestrian fatality rate is already 25% above the\u2062 national average.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to SAFE\u200c Director \u200bDamian \u2063Kevitt,\u2063 in 2022, 157 pedestrians died \u200bin the city. The data also revealed traffic and cyclist fatalities\u200c both increased from 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, SAFE stated that homeless people\u2063 are 40 times more likely to be hit by a\u200b car compared to other pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p>Fox Los Angeles, claimed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-not-ticketing-jaywalkers-now-deemed-racist-in-california\/\" title=\"Why Not: Ticketing Jaywalkers Now Deemed Racist in California\">jaywalking laws<\/a>\u2063 were repealed due to Democrat lawmakers in the Golden State.
