Following\u200b his resignation, one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/three-cops-accused-in-george-floyds-death-begin-their-federal-trial\/\" title=\"Three Cops Accused In George Floyd\u2019s Death Begin Their Federal Trial\">full-time officer<\/a> and \u200cfive part-time employees reportedly also resigned on August \u200c11<sup>th<\/sup> with their last working day\u200c is set for August 23<sup>rd<\/sup>. This sudden departure has \u2064left\u2062 the \u200dtown without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-pledges-orderly-transition-of-power\/\" title=\"President Trump pledges orderly transition of power\">local law enforcement<\/a>, \u2064prompting the City \u200dCouncil\u2062 to seek\u200c temporary assistance from the Goodhue County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Despite\u200c recent efforts to address the pay issue,\u200b including a 5% pay\u2064 increase and a $13,000 raise for Chief Smith earlier this year, the Goodhue officers were still receiving lower wages\u200d in \u2063comparison to similar communities.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Smith had previously\u2062 expressed concerns about pay \u200band recruiting during a meeting on \u200cJuly 26<sup>th<\/sup>, where he highlighted \u200bthe challenge of maintaining the police department\u2063 with \u2062inadequate compensation. He stressed that the city\u2019s\u200d current\u200b pay rate of\u2064 $22 an hour was insufficient to attract and retain officers, \u2062especially when \u200cother communities \u200cwere offering higher salaries, often around $30 an hour.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council expressed its desire to \u2063rebuild the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/black-lives-matters-most-prominent-chapter-launches-drive-targeting-police-unions\/\" title=\"Black Lives Matter\u2019s Most Prominent Chapter Launches Drive Targeting Police Unions\">local police force<\/a>\u200d rather than permanently relying\u200d on the Goodhue County \u2063Sheriff\u2019s\u2063 Office for law enforcement\u2063 services.
