The plan was to offload the \u2062ship and its cargo in Houston, with the oil profits \u200cgoing \u200ctowards victims of terrorism. However, U.S. companies are\u2062 hesitant to touch or unload the cargo due to concerns of potential retribution from Iran,\u200d which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrats-consider-restraining-order-against-marjorie-taylor-greene-report\/\" title=\"House Democrats Consider Restraining Order Against Marjorie Taylor Greene: Report\">previously harassed<\/a> and seized foreign tankers in the region.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;The ability for a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) to prevent the transfer\u2062 of seized assets \u2062within U.S. territorial waters is an unprecedented intimidation effort \u2062that threatens to undermine our Nation&#8217;s security,&#8221; the lawmakers write in their letter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We request that you work expeditiously to resolve the delay in the transfer of seized oil \u2062from the Suez Rajan and continue to enforce the law against Foreign \u2063Terrorist\u200d Organizations, such as the \u200cIRGC. The enforcement of petroleum sanctions will become irrelevant if American citizens and companies involved live in fear of Iranian retaliation,&#8221; they added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter, signed by Senators Joni Ernst (R-IA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Bill Hagerty (R-TN), as\u200b well as Representatives Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Jim Banks (R-IN), Don Davis (D-NC), and Max Miller (R-OH), also requests a briefing \u200con the progress \u200bof transferring the \u200cseized \u200doil to U.S. custody and a detailed timeline of the incident and the U.S.&#8217;s response to threats from Iran.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;President Biden must answer for Iran&#8217;s increased aggression because Americans deserve to know their lives and livelihoods will be protected against terrorists&#8217; intimidation,&#8221;\u200d said Senator Ernst in a statement \u200dto the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Ernst and Senator Blumenthal previously expressed concern in \u2063a letter to President Biden about the Department of Homeland Security&#8217;s \u2062Homeland Security Investigations office being constrained in its\u200d ability to seize Iranian oil shipments. The senators claim that the office has not \u200bbeen provided the necessary funding to carry out these seizures.<\/p>\n<p>This latest letter from lawmakers comes as the Biden \u2064administration&#8217;s deal\u2064 to bring imprisoned Americans home from Iran in exchange for access to frozen assets and the \u200brelease of imprisoned Iranians \u200dis facing criticism from Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Biden administration&#8217;s failure to enforce \u2064sanctions on Iran \u200dhas made the world\u2062 a less safe place,&#8221; said\u200c Senator Ernst. &#8220;I have called on President Biden to stand up to Iran and enforce our sanctions for months. \u200dInstead, he has doubled down on\u2063 his posture of appeasement by incentivizing their hostage &#8216;diplomacy,&#8217; allowing Iran to increase funding for their terrorist activities, and emboldening the IRGC to intimidate American companies in\u200b our own waters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. military has responded to recent\u2063 Iranian attempts\u2062 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-sending-more-navy-ships-and-marines-to-middle-east-over-iranian-threats\/\" title=\"US deploys additional Navy ships and Marines to Middle East amidst Iranian threats.\">seize commercial vessels<\/a> by sending additional warships and thousands of Marines to the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>In early July, Iranian vessels approached two \u200coil tankers in international waters, but the U.S. Navy&#8217;s presence deterred any further escalation.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two years, Iran \u200bhas been involved in multiple incidents of attacking or attempting to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-press-biden-to-end-delay-in-offloading-iranian-oil-tanker\/\" title=\"Lawmakers urge Biden to promptly unload Iranian oil tanker.\">seize internationally \u2063flagged merchant vessels<\/a> in the region.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/lawmakers-urge-biden-resolve-delay-seizure-iranian-oil-gas-shipments\">The Washington Examiner<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawmakers penned a bipartisan letter to President Biden, urging swift action to address the delay in seizing Iranian oil and gas shipments held in a Texas-bound tanker.
