Mars Wrigley, the \u2064company that makes Skittles, manages to sell a colorful concoction containing 45 grams of\u200d sugar that won\u2019t make you vomit. \u200dThat\u2019s the good news. <\/p>\n<p>The bad news is that \u2063consuming excess\u2062 amounts will dramatically increase your risk of diabetes, cancer, \u2064and other diseases. According to the U.S. \u200bDepartment of Health and Human Services, \u2062black \u200cAmericans are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minorityhealth.hhs.gov\/omh\/browse.aspx?lvl=4&#038;lvlid=18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">60 percent more likely<\/a> than whites to be diagnosed with diabetes. What does this have to do with Skittles? Mars recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/conservatives-are-furious-skittles-pro-transgender-packaging-1819337\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released<\/a> a new version of Skittles with \u200dthe phrase \u201cblack \u2063trans lives matter\u201d on the packaging.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2019106359\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c6d7628747aa48a474afc306919a1ccd fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c6d7628747aa48a474afc306919a1ccd\"><\/div>\n<p><h2>Type 2 diabetes and the blame game<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Type 2 diabetes is attributable to \u2062lifestyle choices and\u2063 genetics, both of which influence the \u200cprevalence \u2064of the\u200d condition across various demographics. These rational and fact-based explanations\u2062 make the left squirm and offer no opportunity to demonize their political opponents, so they\u2019re \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/news.emory.edu\/stories\/2023\/06\/hs_diabetes_disparities_lancet_26-06-2023\/story.html\">blaming<\/a> the \u2064difference in diabetes rates on \u201cracism.\u201d Mars is a decidedly left-wing company, but oddly enough it isn\u2019t the least bit concerned about its sugar-laden products contributing to alarming rates of \u2062diabetes among black Americans.<\/p>\n<p><h3>The hypocrisy of corporate virtue signaling<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>When your products are primary contributors to the obesity and diabetes epidemics, you can rightfully point out \u200bthat nobody is forced \u200dto consume\u2063 candy or other unhealthy food. As a defender of\u2064 free markets, I embrace this thinking. But if you sell nutritionally defunct garbage that causes some of your customers to become sick with \u2063life-threatening illnesses, what\u200d you cannot \u2063do is claim\u200c to be uniquely virtuous and deeply concerned about the well-being of your customers, especially when your own (flawed) logic suggests \u200byour products are exacerbating so-called health \u201cinequities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is\u2062 nothing evil about selling candy, as many people enjoy\u200c it in \u2063moderation, but there is something cynical and evil about playing on the emotions\u2062 of\u2062 black Americans by \u200bway \u200dof racial\u200b advertising as you sell\u200c them products you know to be severely detrimental\u200c to their health.<\/p>\n<p>Mars is supposedly still a candy and food company, but you wouldn\u2019t know that if you visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CuC5OkVMaJ3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram<\/a> page of Mars \u2062Global,\u2064 which is dedicated entirely to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maryland-elementary-school-lesson-compares-southern-border-to-japanese-imprisonment-during-wwii\/\" title=\"Maryland Elementary School Lesson Compares Southern Border To Japanese Imprisonment During WWII\">promoting left-wing<\/a> causes. Mars is also the maker of what used to be called\u2064 Uncle Ben\u2019s Rice until\u2062 the company removed Uncle Ben from the box and rebranded it as \u201cBen\u2019s Rice.\u201d At the \u2064time, Mars issued a statement saying, \u201cWe\u2019ve listened. We\u2019ve learned. We\u2019re \u2062changing.\u201d Considering \u200bthis was three\u2063 years ago, I think it\u2019s safe to say\u200b that refusing to sell \u2062junk food that drives the epidemic of \u200cdiabetes was not\u2063 part of Mars\u2019 newfound enlightenment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-412ddd9265949c894b650d7f51fd9e72 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-412ddd9265949c894b650d7f51fd9e72\"><\/div>\n<p><h2>Other corporations and their \u2062virtue signaling<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Mars is not \u2064alone. Other corporations selling equally harmful food products\u200c have chimed in to demonstrate\u200c their faux morality and supposed obsession with the plight of black America and other minorities.<\/p>\n<p>James Quincey, CEO of Coca-Cola, was apparently devastated \u200cover Georgia\u2019s voting law that passed a couple of years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/business-a-lobbying\/business-a-lobbying\/545827-coca-cola-ceo-says-georgia-voting-law-unacceptable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggesting<\/a> \u2064it was \u201cunacceptable\u201d and \u201ca step backwards.\u201d Opponents \u200bof the law claimed it was intended to attack the voting rights of black Americans. \u2062Their reasoning goes something like this: If a law disproportionately affects a group of people, it is by default problematic (by that logic, laws against murder are problematic). Quincey\u2064 believes that\u200c requiring a\u2062 photo ID to vote is unacceptable because, according to people like him, black Americans can\u2019t figure\u200d out how to get an ID. On the other hand, Quincey finds \u2064it\u200c totally acceptable to sell a \u2063product that by \u2062his own \u2063logic \u201cdisproportionately\u201d affects the health of \u2062the very \u200bpeople he claims to care about, as blacks\u2064 are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthyfoodamerica.org\/sugary_drinks_in_america_who_s_drinking_what_and_how_much\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more likely<\/a> than whites to consume\u200c sugary drinks.<\/p>\n<p>Like most large corporations, Coca-Cola has an entire section of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coca-colacompany.com\/social\/diversity-and-inclusion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a> \u200c dedicated to clich\u00e9 sloganeering\u200b replete with\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-cia-recruitment-ad-criticized-for-overdose-of-woke-ideas\/\" title=\"New CIA recruitment ad criticized for \u2018overdose\u2019 of woke ideas\">left-wing buzzwords<\/a> that together are the language of America\u2019s \u2064credentialed but increasingly dimwitted corporate \u2063leadership class. Coca-Cola wants to make clear that they really,\u200c really care about minorities. They know who their customers are, and because they know black Americans are more likely than white Americans to\u200c consume sugary drinks, they demonstrate their commitment to \u201cracial equity\u201d by including only\u200c the most \u200bwholesome <a href=\"https:\/\/us.coca-cola.com\/products\/coca-cola\/original\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ingredients<\/a> such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/these-are-the-worst-frozen-foods-out-there-for-your-health\/\" title=\"These Are the Worst Frozen Foods Out There for Your Health\">high fructose corn syrup<\/a> and caramel color. I know what you\u2019re thinking, it\u2019s too\u200b good to be true \u2014 they must be compensating\u200c by skimping\u2063 on the sugar. Nope! One\u2063 20-ounce bottle\u2063 is packed with 130 \u200dpercent of your recommended daily sugar intake. \u200d  <\/p>\n<p>Kellogg\u2019s, maker of some of America\u2019s \u2063favorite sugary breakfast cereals,\u200b also <a href=\"https:\/\/betterdays.kelloggcompany.com\/our-approach-to-edi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dedicates<\/a> a portion of \u2063its website to preaching about their\u2064 morals,\u2063 stating that they are \u201cmaking sure tangible\u2062 and intangible barriers are removed to ensure our company\u2019s practices in the workplace, marketplace, and communities are best in class.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-41184fbcdd90511d0280742bb64e0763 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-41184fbcdd90511d0280742bb64e0763\"><\/div>\n<p><h3>The absurdity of corporate wokeism<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear \u200cwhat\u2062 these \u201ctangible\u201d barriers might be. We are to assume Kellogg\u2019s was forcing\u200d certain employees to work while \u200cliterally chained to a desk, or while trapped \u2063in some sort of \u2063enclosure.\u200c <em>Who writes this stuff?<\/em> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kelloggs.com\/en_US\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landing page<\/a> of Kellogg\u2019s website brags about being \u201cone \u200dof the original plant-based well-being \u200bcompanies,\u201d\u2063 the implication being that eating meat is so\u200b evil that anything that\u2062 is not meat is by default worthy \u200bof admiration. As sellers of \u200da plant-based product, big\u2063 tobacco will be thrilled with this news.<\/p>\n<p>You may recall that Quaker\u2063 Oats (under the umbrella of PepsiCo) was \u2063feeling guilty about Aunt\u2063 Jemima syrup a few years ago and decided to finally do \u2062something about it. What kept them up \u2064at night \u2062wasn\u2019t the fact \u2064that \u2062their syrup\u200c is nothing more than a\u200d lab-created\u200b ooze\u200b laced with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pearlmillingcompany.com\/products\/syrups\/original\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harmful ingredients<\/a> that have nothing \u2062in common with actual maple syrup. That part they \u2063were fine with. What upset them was the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/aunt-jemima-unveils-new-name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">racist imagery<\/a>\u201d featured on the bottle. I \u200cdon\u2019t \u200bhave the exact numbers in front of me, but my\u200b quick\u2064 math shows\u2063 that approximately three black people in America had Aunt Jemima syrup on their list of concerns, and something like 10 million white leftists were having nervous breakdowns over it.<\/p>\n<p><h2>The true \u2062motives behind corporate virtue \u200dsignaling<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s Mars putting \u201cblack trans lives matter\u201d on a package \u200cor the rebranding of rice\u2064 and syrup, these choices are nothing more than a symbolic sleight of hand\u2063 intended to appease\u200c the neurotic activists within and outside these\u2063 organizations while exempting themselves from their own ideological standards. These objectives have nothing to do with helping black Americans\u200b and everything to do with leftists making themselves feel better.<\/p>\n<p>A contemporary theory suggests that\u200b this type of corporate wokeism is intended to improve ESG scores by impressing the likes \u2064of Blackrock and Vanguard, which in many cases is probably true, but we should not over-emphasize this factor. Leftism in corporate \u200bAmerica predates ESG, and even smaller privately held \u200ccompanies that have no\u200d ESG\u200c score will peddle \u200cleft-wing nonsense with the same vigor.<\/p>\n<p><h3>The sugar \u200bempire&#8217;s priorities<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>While some \u2063corporations have bled bottom lines by giving into ideological\u200d impulses, I\u2019m going to go out on a limb here and say that Mars cares more about its sugar empire \u200bthan they care about \u200c\u201cblack lives.\u201d As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NXegsaDctGE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Homer Simpson<\/a> famously said, \u201cFirst you \u2063get the sugar, then you get the power,\u201d and Mars guards its sugar pile with the vigilance \u200cof Homer while hoping their\u2062 increasingly sick\u200c customers don\u2019t notice that it was accumulated at the expense of their health.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7006f75c0d91dcfcfc50218c77a67786 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7006f75c0d91dcfcfc50218c77a67786\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A pack of Skittles has 45g of sugar, equal to 11 teaspoons.
