The indictment Monday out of Fulton County, Georgia, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/15\/how-stupid-is-the-georgia-anti-trump-case-they-indicted-trump-for-tweeting-at-people-to-watch-tv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criminalizes mundane activities<\/a> like asking for a phone number, texting, encouraging people to watch a televised hearing, and reserving a \u2062room at the Georgia capitol. <\/p>\n<h2>Trump&#8217;s Indictment: A Blatant \u2062Abuse of \u2063Power<\/h2>\n<p>These activities, according to Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis, run afoul of the state\u2019s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statute.\u2063 As far as Willis is concerned, Trump\u2019s legal efforts to challenge the \u2064election results in Georgia amounted to a\u2063 criminal\u2063 conspiracy, with Trump \u2064as the \u200bcriminal mastermind. What that means, outlandishly, is that every phone\u200b call or tweet related \u2064to those legal efforts,\u2062 every step Trump and his team took\u2062 to press their <em>legal case<\/em>, counts as \u201can overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1637198412\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-18acd64460da2d3e3b17d122bebc5d71 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-18acd64460da2d3e3b17d122bebc5d71\"><\/div>\n<p>This is of course \u2064crazy. As more than a few\u2064 people have noted \u200csince the charges dropped,\u200c according\u200d to Willis\u2019 standard every major Democrat should be in prison on racketeering charges \u2014 including Hillary Clinton but <em>especially<\/em> Stacey Abrams, who has made\u2062 a career out of denying that she lost the\u2063 2018 Georgia gubernatorial\u200b election. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"1kV3zKSFsIcQGLbq50XgR62EDBPnYoWvH\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here\u2019s five \u200dminutes \u200dof Stacey Abrams denying\u200d she lost the 2018 election. When will she be arrested? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x9WaAdiKhd\">pic.twitter.com\/x9WaAdiKhd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ClayTravis\/status\/1691517367853998080?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 15, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>So yes, the hypocrisy is stupendous\u200c and blatant. But let \u2063me suggest\u200b that decrying the hypocrisy here is a loser\u2019s game. What you see in these anti-Trump indictments is not hypocrisy, it\u2019s hierarchy. We all became \u2062familiar with this concept during the Covid pandemic. Gathering for\u200b church, even outside, was against the law, \u200dbut mass \u200drioting in the streets was\u2063 OK \u2014 so long as you were\u200c rioting \u200cfor racial justice. Ordinary people had \u200dto let their elderly loved ones\u200b die alone\u200d and were\u200c not even allowed to bury them, yet thousands \u200battended the funeral and memorial services for \u2063secular saint George Floyd.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps nothing better captured the hierarchy-not-hypocrisy concept than a photo of Democrat Rep.\u200b Alexandria\u200c Ocasio-Cortez\u2062 at the annual Met Gala in\u200d September 2021 wearing a white gown with \u201ctax \u200dthe rich\u201d scrawled on\u200c its backside. Set aside the idiocy of the stunt itself. In the photo,\u200c AOC isn\u2019t\u200d wearing a face mask, but the woman helping her with\u200c her gown is. What AOC was displaying for\u200d the\u2063 public was hierarchy.<\/p>\n<p>As \u2064my colleague Eddie Scarry <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/09\/15\/ocasio-cortez-dress-wasnt-about-hypocrisy-it-was-about-americas-new-social-hierarchy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote at the time<\/a>, \u201cThis is\u2064 simply another example of those in power,\u2063 those\u200c running our most influential cultural and political institutions, sending a message: There\u2019s a new social hierarchy in America. And \u2062this one isn\u2019t\u200b about what you can afford to do, it\u2019s about what you\u2019re allowed to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7f7738f036686811a9c6c9e7e0d5158b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7f7738f036686811a9c6c9e7e0d5158b\"><\/div>\n<p>The same analysis applies to \u200cthe\u200b raft of indictments against Trump, whose post-2020 denunciations of the election are no different\u2062 than those \u200bof Clinton in 2016 \u2064or most Democrats\u200d in 2000 and\u2064 2004. Democrats are allowed\u2063 to question the results of\u200c an election, Republicans are not. That\u2019s not hypocrisy, it\u2019s hierarchy. <\/p>\n<p>Once you understand this,\u200b you begin to \u200brecognize it everywhere. Antifa thugs and\u2062 BLM rioters were allowed to trash entire city blocks,\u200d torch police \u200cstations, take\u200d over neighborhoods, \u200bbesiege federal courthouses \u2014 and do\u200c so \u200dwith the blessing and encouragement, at times even with the complicity, of elected Democrat Party leaders. But every granny that set\u200c foot within a mile \u200dof the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 \u200dhad better brace for a \u2063federal indictment if they\u200b haven\u2019t already been charged.<\/p>\n<p>The same goes for teachers who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/muppet-babies-reintroduces-male-character-as-transgender-princess\/\" title=\"\u2018Muppet Babies\u2019 Reintroduces Male Character As Transgender Princess\">push transgender ideology<\/a> and \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">critical race theory<\/a> on students\u2064 versus the\u200d parents who object to these things being taught behind their backs. The former are courageous leaders, and the latter are potential domestic terrorists, at least according to the Biden\u200d Justice Department. Ditto for the media\u2019s treatment of the Trump family business versus the Biden family \u200cbusiness. None of this is hypocrisy, it\u2019s \u200dhierarchy. The left is trying to \u200ctell you something, which\u2064 is that they have all\u200c the power and you have none.<\/p>\n<p>The essayist\u200b N.S. Lyons (a pseudonym) put it well in <a href=\"https:\/\/theupheaval.substack.com\/p\/its-not-hypocrisy-youre-just-powerless\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a piece last August<\/a>, describing the futile efforts of Team B to call out the hypocrisy of Team A:<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e234b0a1551c4712710978c3bfc4563e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e234b0a1551c4712710978c3bfc4563e\"><\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>You \u2063see, it\u2019s \u200dpossible you are under the misapprehension that \u200cyou are <em style=\"font-style:normal;\">not<\/em> supposed to notice what you described as the \u201cdouble-standard\u201d in acceptable behavior\u200c between Team A and Team B. And\u200b that you think if you point out\u2063 this double-standard, you are foiling the other\u200c team\u2019s plot and holding them accountable. This might be because, in your mind, you are still in high school debate club, where if you finger your opponent for having violated the\u200d evenly-applied rules a neutral arbiter of acceptable behavior will recognize \u2064this unfairness and penalize them with demerits.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Except in reality \u2063you\u200c are not holding Team A accountable, and in fact are notably never able to hold them accountable for anything \u2062at all. Even though Team A gets to hold you\u2064 accountable for everything and anything \u200cwhenever \u200dthey want. This is because unfortunately there \u2063is no \u200bneutral arbiter \u200blistening to your whining. In \u2063fact, \u2064currently the only arbiter is Team A, because Team A has consolidated all the power to\u200d decide the \u200drules, and to enforce or not enforce those rules as they see fit.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With each new Trump indictment, the left\u2019s strategy becomes increasingly clear. It isn\u2019t to \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-purpose-of-the-trump-indictments-is-to-demonstrate-the-lefts-power\/\" title=\"The Trump indictments showcase the Left's influence.\">bring real criminal charges based<\/a> on actual violations of the law, or to see justice applied equally and fairly even to \u200ba powerful person \u2063like Trump. The strategy\u2063 is to demonstrate power and thereby humiliate and discourage Trump supporters by \u200dshowing them how powerless \u200dthey are.<\/p>\n<p>Another aspect of \u200dthis strategy, as \u2063James Lindsay <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ConceptualJames\/status\/1691588023220129845?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained in a Twitter thread Tuesday<\/a>, is to provoke the right into reacting. This is what Lindsay \u2063calls\u200c \u201cleftist \u200cdialectical political warfare,\u201d or, \u200bin Trump\u2019s case, \u201cOperation Poke the Bear.\u201d The purpose of such warfare, says Lindsay, is to provoke a reaction\u2064 that would justify the further consolidation \u2062of power on the\u200c left.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>So expect to see more \u201chypocrisy\u201d \u2014 even lazy and objectively embarrassing hypocrisy of the kind we saw this \u200bweek in the Georgia indictment. It doesn\u2019t\u2064 matter how laughable or outlandish the charges against Trump are, because prosecuting actual crimes and upholding the law have nothing to do with any of this.<\/p>\n<p>This\u2063 is about power \u2014 who has it, and who doesn\u2019t. The people at the top are trying to tell you, the masses under \u200cthem, that they can \u200ddo whatever they want to you, \u2063at any time, and there\u2019s nothing\u2063 you can do to fight back. Just look what they\u2019re \u200bdoing to Trump, a former president.
