Tuohy Sr. said the conservatorship was drawn up to\u200c ensure that\u2063 Oher was eligible to play football at the\u2062 University of Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m gonna preface this by saying\u2064 that I love Mike at 16, I love Mike at 37, and I \u200d [will] love him at 67,\u201d\u200c Tuohy Jr. said of Oher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s not gonna be\u200b any dossier or thing that happens that is going to make me say, \u2018Screw that guy.\u2019 That\u2019s not the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:640px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>(Left) Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy at Sunset Tower in West Hollywood, Calif., \u2064on Feb. 2, 2011. (Larry\u2063 French\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Tuohys Never \u200dLegally Adopted Oher But Still Profit Off That Story<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Oher\u2019s lawsuit alleges that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, who took Oher into their home as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-education-sec-on-womens-school-sports-we-have-a-legal-responsibility-to-include-transgender-athletes\/\" title=\"Biden Education Sec On Women\u2019s School Sports: We Have a \u2018Legal Responsibility\u2019 to Include Transgender Athletes\">high school student<\/a>,\u2062 never adopted him. Instead, less than three months after Oher turned 18 in 2004, the petition says, the couple \u2063convinced him to sign a document making \u2064them \u2064his conservators, giving them the legal\u2062 right to\u200b control his finances and any\u2063 business deals in his name. He has said he\u200c is now suing to\u200d get what is his.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lie of Michael\u2019s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne \u2063Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves\u200c at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael\u200d Oher,\u201d the ex-NFL player\u2019s lawsuit says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMichael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him\u200b a member\u2062 of the Tuohy family, in fact, provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further, Oher claims that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michigan-family-that-went-missing-under-suspicious-circumstances-found-safe-in-wisconsin\/\" title=\"Michigan Family That Went Missing Under Suspicious Circumstances Found Safe In Wisconsin\">family members told<\/a> him\u200c they\u200d never made much money from the film or the book the film\u2062 was based upon. But his attorneys say that this is \u200dnot true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to the legal filing, the movie paid the Tuohys and their two birth children each $225,000, plus 2.5 percent\u200d of the film\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/michael-oher-from-blind-side-claims-tuohys-never-adopted-him-made-millions\/\" title=\"Michael Oher, of 'Blind Side' fame, says Tuohys never adopted him, earned millions.\">defined net proceeds<\/a>,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/38190720\/blind-side-subject-michael-oher-alleges-adoption-was-lie-family-took-all-film-proceeds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the outlet, the movie\u2064 earned in excess of $300 million. The deal the Tuohys made allowed them\u2063 to profit from the film,\u200d but the separate 2007 contract Oher supposedly signed appears to \u2064\u201cgive away\u201d\u200c to 20th Century \u2062Fox Studios the life rights to his story \u201cwithout any payment whatsoever,\u201d Oher\u2019s lawsuit states.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, in the years since, the Tuohys have continued to call Oher their adopted son and\u200b have\u200d used that assertion to promote their foundations, along with Leigh Anne Tuohy\u2019s work as \u2062an author and motivational \u200bspeaker.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lawsuit Calls \u200cFor End to Making Money Off \u2064Oher\u2019s Name and Likeness<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Oher\u2019s lawsuit asks a court to end the ability of the Tuohys \u200cto make money off his name, story, and\u200d likeness and demands that they pay him a fair share of the profits they\u200b have earned during all \u2062these years.<\/p>\n<p>Oher \u200balso noted that the Tuohys told him he was adopted and that the paper he signed made that\u200b legal, but that he has\u2063 since learned there are major differences between an actual adoption\u2062 and the \u200cconservatorship document he signed. In an actual adoption, he \u2063would retain the right to handle his own financial affairs while\u200c under the conservatorship; those\u200b rights\u200d were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-k-bans-men-from-womens-prisons\/\" title=\"U.K. Bans Men From Women's Prisons\">specifically signed<\/a> away to the \u2063Tuohys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI get it, why he\u2019s mad. I completely understand. It stinks that it\u2019ll play out on a very public \u2063stage,\u201d Tuohy Jr. told the \u200cBarstool hosts. \u2063&#8221;You will never hear me say anything bad about Michael Oher in any capacity other than I\u2019m upset that he feels the\u2064 way that he does. I think some of the things that were mentioned in \u200dthe probate or \u2062book or whatever I don\u2019t necessarily agree with and or\u2063 remember happening like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also suggested the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/family-responds-as-blind-side-subject-michael-oher-says-his-adoption-was-a-lie\/\" title=\"Michael Oher claims adoption was a lie; family reacts.\">football \u2064player \u2062knew<\/a> about his parents being his conservators before this year.<\/p>\n<p>Tuohy Sr. negated the notion that the family profited generously from the film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sat Michael down and told him, \u2018If\u2064 you\u2019re planning to go to Ole\u2063 Miss\u2014or even considering Ole Miss\u2014we think you \u2062have to be part of the family. This would do that \u200dlegally,&#8217;\u201d Tuohy said. \u201cWe \u2064contacted lawyers who had\u2063 told \u2062us\u200b that we couldn\u2019t adopt\u200b over the age of\u200b 18; the only thing we could do was to have a conservatorship.
