However, he believes\u2062 that the charges will not simply go away without a court \u2063trial.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday evening, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis unveiled\u2063 a 98-page indictment, alleging President Trump and at least \u206318 co-defendants \u200dwere involved in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/georgia-grand-jury-returns-indictment-in-trump-2020-case-5455188\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a 41-count\u2062 criminal conspiracy<\/a> to upend the 2020 election results. President Trump specifically faces 13 \u200cdifferent criminal charges, including\u200b violating the Georgia Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, three counts of solicitation of a violation of oath by a \u2062public officer, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, two\u200b counts of conspiracy to commit forgery in the first\u2062 degree, two counts of conspiracy \u200bto \u200dcommit filing of false documents, two counts of conspiracy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/4th-trump-indictment-sparks-partisan-reactions\/\" title=\"4th Trump Indictment Ignites Partisan Responses\">commit false statements<\/a> and writings, and two counts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-trump-indictment-looks-very-political-but-dismissal-unlikely-legal-scholar\/\" title=\"Legal scholar believes Georgia Trump indictment appears politically motivated, but dismissal is unlikely.\">committing false statements<\/a> and writings.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it&#8217;s an attempt by Georgia to do a shock and\u2062 awe sort of attack \u200don Donald Trump \u2062and his supporters,&#8221; William A. I think the prosecution \u2063wants, you know, a pound of flesh from Donald\u2064 Trump,&#8221; Mr. Jacobson said. &#8220;They want the mug shot, they want him paraded in front of the cameras.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Ms. Willis&#8217;s office has given President Trump and his \u2062co-defendants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/here-is-when-trump-has-to-surrender-in-georgia-case-5466434\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an Aug. 25 deadline<\/a> to turn\u2064 themselves\u200c in and Fulton County Sheriff \u200dPat Labat has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brian-laundrie-may-already-have-been-dead-when-police-mistakenly-thought-he-returned-home-police-say\/\" title=\"Brian Laundrie May Already Have Been Dead When Police Mistakenly Thought He Returned Home, Police Say\">told media outlets<\/a> that his office \u200dwill take President Trump&#8217;s mugshot.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They didn&#8217;t do that in\u2064 the Manhattan indictment. They haven&#8217;t done that in the federal indictments. So I think this all smells very political, from the way that prosecution is conducting itself,&#8221; Mr. Jacobson said of apparent plans\u200b to take arrest photos\u2064 and \u2063televise the\u2063 former president&#8217;s court appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jacobson\u2064 also raised issue with\u2063 the \u200btiming of the indictment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think one of the big concerns that people have is\u2063 that this is the weaponization of the prosecutorial function for political purposes,&#8221; \u2062he said.\u200c &#8220;They waited to bring\u200d these charges until \u2064we&#8217;re in an election year. And that&#8217;s the problem\u2014these charges are based on conduct\u2063 that took place almost \u2064three \u200cyears ago. They could have brought this case a year\u2064 ago, we would have had the trial, we would have\u2063 had the result, and it\u200c wouldn&#8217;t have interfered with the\u2063 Republican primaries in the general election.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The former president has previously accused Mr. Bragg and\u2062 special counsel Jack Smith\u2064 of election interference after \u200bthey filed criminal charges against him earlier this year. President Trump is running\u2063 in the\u200c 2024 presidential election\u2064 and currently leads all other Republican candidates by double digits in most polls. In a \u2064Monday evening <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donaldjtrump.com\/news\/12ca8dfc-2356-43ba-a93e-0928c38bcc4d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press \u2064statement<\/a>, President Trump&#8217;s 2024 campaign accused Ms. Willis of being a &#8220;rabid partisan&#8221; like Mr. Bragg and Mr. Smith\u200d and said she &#8220;has strategically stalled her investigation to try and maximally interfere with the 2024 presidential race and damage the dominant Trump campaign.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Easy Out Unlikely \u200bFor Trump<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Jacobson said \u200bhe doesn&#8217;t believe Mr.\u2064 Trump&#8217;s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results were\u200c criminal, but also expressed doubt that many of the charges \u200bcan easily be dismissed before\u200c a trial.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t agree with Donald Trump&#8217;s conduct after the election,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One legal scholar believes the recent criminal indictment against ex-President Donald Trump in Georgia appears politically motivated.
