California Attorney General\u2062 Rob Bonta recently <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-bonta-issues-formal-apology-acknowledging-complicity-california#:~:text=OAKLAND%20%E2%80%93%20Today%2C%20on%20the%2035th,during%20and%20after%20World%20War\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressed regrets<\/a> \u200dto Japanese Americans on the 35th anniversary of the Civil Liberties Act (Aug. \u206310, 1988). This Act had bipartisan support\u2064 in Congress and was signed during the \u2062presidency of Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n<p>The Act granted $20,000 in the form \u200dof reparations to living Japanese\u200d American citizens and permanent \u2063residents who had been\u200b incarcerated in government internment camps in a few Western states from \u200d1942\u20131946. At the time, California Attorney General\u2063 Earl Warren\u200c supported Executive \u2063Order \u200c9066, which was signed by President Franklin Roosevelt. It authorized the U.S. military to \u2062administer \u201crelocation\u201d camps that \u2062housed \u2063more than 120,000 Japanese Americans.<\/p>\n<p>These internees had their businesses, homes, and land taken from them, because some officials in government\u200c feared\u2063 that they might not be\u2063 loyal Americans. They might make apology issuers feel \u2063good about virtue signaling, but are they necessary?\u200c Every time you turn around,\u2062 a government official\u200c is offering \u200cregrets\u2062 regarding the Asian Exclusion Acts, mistreatment of native \u2064tribes, and the atrocity of slavery. (AP Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>One \u200ccan understand apologies issued during or shortly after \u200dinjustices are committed, but to \u200bcontinually litigate misdeeds committed scores and scores of years \u2063ago \u2062dilutes \u2062the authenticity of apologetic contrition. Historical \u2062mistakes cannot\u2064 be undone, but current and future generations can\u2064 strive to respect \u2062Americans from all cultural backgrounds. It is\u2062 highly\u200c worthwhile to educate ourselves regarding the \u2063highs\u2064 and lows of American history while treating others as you want\u2064 to be treated\u200d in daily life.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast to feeling the urge to offer mea \u200cculpas for prior injustices, government officials \u2062in California could apologize for current\u2063 policies that jeopardize \u2063the quality of life \u2064for most Californians. First, Gov. Newsom could apologize for the\u2062 devastating pandemic mandates \u200cthat generated mental \u2064suffering\u2062 on\u200c mostly healthy citizens for two\u2063 years. Businesses and schools were unnecessarily shuttered\u200b although the lockdowns and\u2064 experimental vaccines were ineffective in stopping the\u200c virus. Moreover, many officials failed to adhere to their own edicts.<\/p>\n<p>Next, some city, county, and state officials could apologize for defunding \u200dthe\u200c police\u200b in major cities, which encouraged ascending rates of crime and homelessness. This lawlessness subtracts from business productivity, erodes personal security, and infringes on the rights of law-abiding\u2063 folks.\u2062 Shortsighted policies chip away at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/antifa-blm-vandalize-ice-building-burn-original-starbucks\/\" title=\"Antifa, BLM vandalize ICE building, burn original Starbucks\">public order<\/a>, \u2062and officials tend to pivot\u2064 in a different direction only when elections are on the\u200d horizon or public fury is unleashed. Why can\u2019t the Democrats \u200cfund law \u2063enforcement because it\u2019s the\u200b right thing to do?<\/p>\n<p>Third, Sacramento politicians \u200bcould apologize for the excessive taxes and regulations that hinder \u2064economic prosperity and force Californians to flee the state. They could learn\u200c lessons from\u2063 states \u200cthat incentivize business \u200cgrowth with less government intervention. They could also explain why a large budget\u200b surplus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/california-deficit-expands-to-31-5-billion-newsom-proposes-broad-spending-cuts-in-revised-budget-5262925\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evaporated<\/a> into a $30 billion \u2063plus deficit\u200d for fiscal year 2024.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>California Gov. Discipline standards and a\u200c rigorous curriculum must replace Marxist indoctrination\u2063 as \u200cwell as cotton candy\/cream puff\/Mickey Mouse courses.
