slogan, is facing threats to receive the &#8220;Bud Light treatment&#8221; for marketing campaigns promoting LGBT pride.<\/p>\n<p>The Skittles \u20622023 &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.out.com\/pride\/2022\/5\/10\/skittles-go-gray-again-pride-packs-designed-lgbtq-artists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pride \u2064Pack<\/a>&#8221; Nobody wants gender identity\u200d nor sexual orientation preached by a candy,&#8221; he asserted. &#8220;You&#8217;re freaking candy!!! Dumb move.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Robert\u2062 Malone also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RWMaloneMD\/status\/1690390914076737538\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called out Mars<\/a> online \u200dfor\u200c its marketing campaign &#8220;aimed\u200c at children.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomFitton\/status\/1690757179194707968\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed<\/a>, saying the promotion &#8220;targets children with transgender extremist sex propaganda&#8221; and &#8220;puts \u2062&#8217;Black Trans Lives Matter&#8217; on its packaging!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chaya Raichik, the woman who runs Libs of TikTok, said\u00a0&#8220;@Skittles\u00a0is trying to turn your kids into BLM &#038; LGBTQ+ activists,&#8221; adding that &#8220;Skittles have\u200c gone completely woke.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response, \u200bRobby Starbuck, a\u2063 former Republican congressional candidate from Tennessee,\u00a0said\u00a0on social media that &#8220;We should transition Skittles to broke.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Others suggested that\u00a0all Mars products should be on the chopping\u2064 block.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>LGBT Response<\/h2>\n<p>On\u2063 Aug. 14, Daniel Villarreal \u200cof <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2023\/08\/conservatives-are-outraged-by-skittles-pride-collab-with-lgbtq-artists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LGBTQ Nation<\/a> \u200b criticized &#8220;right-wingers&#8221;\u2014who have already waged successful and financially painful boycotts against Bud Light and Target\u2014for adding Skittles to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-franciscos-boycott-of-28-states-backfires\/\" title=\"San Francisco\u2019s Boycott of 28 States Backfires\">boycott list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The candy has been celebrating Pride for years,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;The haters apparently just found out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u00a0Villarreal\u200b also defended one of the package designers, saying her art &#8220;allowed her to explore her\u2063 pains and trauma\u200d through illustration&#8221; and that &#8220;by drawing cartoons of herself confronting her fears, she has\u2063 felt braver \u200cin real life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Skittles partnered with GLAAD, the world&#8217;s leading\u2064 LGBT advocacy group, and donated\u00a0$1\u00a0from every pack sold, up to $100,000, during the campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Hank Izzo, vice president of marketing \u2064at Mars\u200b Wrigley U.S., said in the announcement for the original 2020 campaign\u200c that &#8220;We believe that giving up our rainbow means so much more than just removing\u200c the colors from\u200d our \u200cSkittles packs and we&#8217;re excited to do \u200dour part in making a difference for\u200c the LGBTQ+\u200d community through our partnership with GLAAD, not\u2064 only in June, but all year \u2062long.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Skittles continued the campaign in 2023 with five new pride designs by LGBT artists.<\/p>\n<p>Symone Salib\u00a0is a gay Philadelphia-based Cuban\/Egyptian street artist.\u00a0Her \u2063mural\u200b at\u200c &#8220;GALAEI&#8221;\u2014a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-zoa-blasts-blm-after-it-posts-bond-for-attempted-murderer\/\" title=\"Exclusive: ZOA Blasts BLM After It Posts Bond for Attempted Murderer\">radical social justice<\/a>&#8221; organization that &#8220;provides\u2064 services, support, \u200band advocacy for all queers, trans, \u200cblack, indigenous and people of color&#8221;\u2014honors the late LGBT\u2063 leader Gloria Casarez.<\/p>\n<p>She told <a href=\"https:\/\/rollingout.com\/2022\/09\/06\/philadelphia-artist-symone-salib-hopes-to-spark-social-change-with-her-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rolling Out<\/a> in 2022 that she hoped her\u200b partnership with\u2062 General Motors would\u00a0&#8220;ignite social\u2063 change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Artist Shan\u00e9e Benjamin\u00a0partnered with Old Navy\u00a0in 2021 for &#8220;Project WE,&#8221; a collection of T-shirts \u200bcelebrating &#8220;Black History Month, \u2064International Women\u2019s Day, Pride, Juneteenth, and LatinX Heritage Month.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mady G, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-voters-are-suffering-major-buyers-remorse\/\" title=\"Biden Voters Are Suffering Major Buyer's Remorse\">transgender artist<\/a> who\u00a0uses\u00a0the preferred pronoun of \u2063&#8221;they,&#8221;\u00a0partnered with Jill Soloway, creator of the television \u200dseries \u201cTransparent,&#8221; in 2019 to make an animated \u200dvideo explaining why some transgender people use the pronoun \u201cthey\u201d \u200cwhen referring to themselves, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctpost.com\/living\/article\/Being-a-cartoonist-helps-Mady-G-explain-what-it-13506297.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ctpost<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Zipeng Zhu, a\u2063 New York-based animator and self-described &#8220;queer immigrant artist,&#8221; has clients \u2063including\u00a0Apple, Adidas, Adobe, Coca-Cola, and Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>Bianca Xunise, a Chicago-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biancaxunise.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cartoonist<\/a>, was the first black member of a rotating team of female artists who produce a syndicated comic strip called \u2062&#8221;Six Chix.&#8221; \u200bMs.\u2063 Xunise, who identifies as nonbinary, is the artist defended by Mr. Villarreal. Her Skittles design includes\u2062 the words \u201cBlack Trans Lives Matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Other Controversy<\/h2>\n<p>This is not \u2062the first time Ms. \u200dXunise&#8217;s work \u200bhas stirred anger.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 3, 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/nbcblk\/i-am-being-silenced-over-white-feelings-gag-comic-black-n1235668\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC<\/a> \u2062 reported that\u2062 Ms. \u2062Xunise had one of her submissions pulled from \u2064several publications after \u2062it generated thousands of angry responses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>company, Mars Wrigley, hopes to continue supporting the LGBTQ+ community through these campaigns.
