In\u200d an\u200c Aug. 15 filing, U.S. Attorney and special counsel David Weiss stated, &#8220;The government did not &#8216;renege&#8217; on\u200b the plea agreement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden&#8217;s lawyers had accused prosecutors of going back on the deal, \u2064but the prosecutors maintain that they did\u200c not break any agreement.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;The Defendant chose to plead not \u2063guilty\u2062 at the hearing,&#8221; Mr. Weiss\u2064 said in the new filing. Additionally, probation officers declined to sign off on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prosecutors-say-they-did-not-renege-on-hunter-biden-plea-deal\/\" title=\"Prosecutors deny breaking Hunter Biden plea deal.\">proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/justice-department-charges-hunter-biden\/\" title=\"Justice Department charges Hunter Biden\">pretrial diversion agreement<\/a><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The parties had a \u200dready agreement when they entered a hearing on July 26\u2064 in federal court\u200d in Delaware. This agreement would have\u200b seen Hunter Biden pleading guilty to two counts of \u2063intentionally not paying taxes. It also included a pretrial diversion agreement \u2063that would have allowed Biden to avoid punishment\u200c for possessing a \u2064gun while being addicted to an illegal drug, which is a violation of federal law.<\/p>\n<p>However, during the hearing, the judge raised concerns about the parameters of the deal, particularly the immunity it would grant Biden. As a result, Biden pleaded not guilty to the tax charges.<\/p>\n<p>After the hearing, the parties began negotiating\u2064 to address the judge&#8217;s concerns. Biden&#8217;s\u2063 lawyers proposed changes, but the prosecutors believed these changes were not in the best \u200binterest of the United States. They proposed different changes on July 31, which Biden \u2062rejected on Aug. 7, leading to an impasse.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d government then withdrew both agreements and asked for\u200b Biden&#8217;s position on its plans to withdraw the tax charges and file them in a\u200b different venue. Biden requested an extension of time to respond,\u200d but the government declined.<\/p>\n<h2>Latest Filing<\/h2>\n<p>In their latest filing, Biden&#8217;s team claimed that \u2064the scheduled hearing would be moot due \u200dto the \u200cprosecutorial decision to renege on the previously agreed-upon \u2062plea agreement. They also asserted that\u200d they consider the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-vows-weiss-will-publicly-testify-to-counter-any-misrepresentations-about-our-work\/\" title=\"DOJ assures Weiss will testify openly to refute 'any misinterpretations of our efforts'.\">pretrial diversion \u2063agreement<\/a> to be in effect and that Biden intends to abide\u200c by \u2064its terms, including not possessing guns\u2063 for 24 months.<\/p>\n<p>However, Mr. Weiss clarified that the proposed diversion\u2064 agreement never took effect and is not binding\u200b on either party. The agreement required the judge&#8217;s signature, which has not been obtained.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Weiss, appointed under President Donald Trump, made the filing after being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/infographic-timeline-of-the-durham-investigation\/\" title=\"Infographic: Timeline of the Durham Investigation\">named special counsel<\/a> by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
